the air filter has no secret slide out- it is a mornings work by the look of it!
Oh and I found a universal screen bolt kit at Nationwide Accessories that is just identical. 10 screws 20 washers and 10 wellnuts in chrome for $11.70
    my bad.
I'm sure my filter used to slide out on the left hand side, after removing the side cover and some screws from the side of the airbox.

but it splits horizontally.- the top scews on. The only way to get the top off seems to be remove it from the frame

Hi I had a newer version but many things are similar anyway IMO best source of info is www.f650.org, they even have 3 cds for download on how to do basic maintenance. I have them somewhere and they're helpfull for me.

    Cheers,
    Pampa

I had an F650 - can't remember that the air filter was a problem.
    From my Clymer manual:
    1 Remove seat
    2 Remove left side cover
3 Rmove bolts and carefully pull the airbox cover of and move it out of the way
4 Remove the air filter element.

I suggest that you check your water pump - this is the Achilles heel of this bike.
But its a good bike for one-up touring with gravel.
There is a wealth of info at www.f650.com
