Conti road attack 2 for Yamaha R6

Hi, the time has come for me to replace my Bridgestone BT-016 tyres on my Yamaha R6. I plan to get Contental road attack 2 tyres. I ride in any weather, sometimes on cold wet mornings and never on a racetrack. I am after tyres that last a bit longer than the BT-016s and only compromise a little on their performance. What do you think, is this a good plan?

Yeah, why not give them a go. Pilot Powers are going cheap at Cycletreads and they'll last longer than the BT-016, just as another option.

I don't see why not. They are suppose to be decent in the wet and warm up fairly quickly because of the new silicate compounds they are using. I have only read this, but then again I usually only stick to the track these days.

I'd go with the option below but that's just me...

I got the roadattack 2 tyres today and I love them to bits. They are comfortable, I feel minor road irregularities less, they give great feel and grip seems limitless. I could not be happier. Highly recommended.

Interesting that you find them more comfortable than the 016. I thought the 016's were super comfy, well they are compared to the Michelins.

More comfortable than BT-016 that are worn to less than 1mm of tread depth. I don't remember what the BT-016s were like when they were new... Also be aware that my BT-016s came with a new bike and apparently the BT-016 you can buy after market are not the same as the ones supplied with new bikes...

Good choice! I ride an R6 with Conti Road Attacks and for the riding I do its perfect. Commuting + a bit of weekend warrioring The middle bit of the tyre is supposed to be a harder compound with the edges being softer for twisties (so blokey in shop was saying).

Also for these tyres its good practice to check the pressure once every week or two. I have mine loaded front 38psi / rear 40psi or thereabouts.

Sorry that's not entirely true. Pilot power rears will not last as long as 016's rear. But the front pilot power will outlast the 016 front. 016's are great but one problem is the front tyre's don't last. typically you get 2 rears to a front tyre. But with 016's its reverse. How do i know all this? i work at cycletreads for years, i thrash a 05 zx10r daily in all conditions. I'm trying conti road 2's next, which will be the first sport tourer tyre i've had on the 10r, they look awesome, feel super sticky for a road tyre, and come pre scrubbed in!

I put a set of attack 2's on the cbr instead of the usual pilot 2ct's.Id say the grip is about the same, maybe a bit better with lots of power out of the corners.

Fair enough, just not what I found is all. I get consistent 4500km out of rear PP's, PP 2CT's and near 9000km out of fronts. BT-016 front lasted me 7000km (500km too far) and rear was done by 4000km. I must concede those 016's were OE R6 tyres though, so not retail!

Thats great to hear. i had sport attacks on my Monsta - gorgeous grippy tyres. very impressed with them. have read lots of great reviews on the RA2 and will be trying these next tyre change

I have the Road Attack 2 on the FZ1 at the moment, found them to be very good in all road conditions.
Ridden on them at Hampton Downs and had enough grip that i was able to grind about 10 mm off my foot peg, and through the side of my boot.
Came back from Taupo last weekend, just over an hour to get to Cambridge, on the western side of the river. Never had any issues with grip, could see the front had been given a good workout.

I have a road attack rear on & I have had no discernible problems. Had a wee squirm in the wet but I can hardly blame the tyre for that. It is wearing well, beginning to flatten off after 4000 k give or take. I have noticed that I can feel when I reach the edge of the tyre, it's almost as if the bike pauses when it gets to the edge. I regard this as a good thing, early warning... Never run out of grip, the tyre copes just fine with big handfuls of throttle accelerating from the apex & still leant over. I managed to ball it up very slightly during the summer but again I think that is a positive. I'm guessing the "2" should be better again.
