Pass button?

I have got a yamaha SR250 ,1985 model,, it has a passbutton: but it dont work,when I took it to bits it has a brown wire in the headlamp which is not connected to anything,which comes from the passbutton, would anybody know where this wire would have to be connected to ?
when I took the passbutton apart, it has 2 wires coming of it...one yellow that goes to the headbulb and the brown which dont go anywhere...any idea please ? TIA

At a guess, either to +12v or ground. Have a look at your headlamp wiring and find out what the other side of the bulb's connected to.

Hard to help more when it's not in front of me

well. reason being that when I go for a wof they knock be back on it ...they tell you ,,whatever you got on your bike or car or trailer or whatever,got to work...right? or am I wrong? I had a Nissan Safari once with great big searchlights on it...I either took them off..or got them working, so I was toldby the WOF crowd

I suppose the simplest thing is to go to a testing station and ask them if it has to work...lol

Temporarily link the yellow wire to the batt positive and see if the fullbeam filament comes on.

If it does, temporarily link the brown wire to the battery. The fullbeam filament should NOT come one. Try the pass button and it SHOULD come on.

If so, find 12V when the key is on, near to the end of the brown wire and hook it in permanently. Test it again.

There is no section that says, "Test Pass Button".
They aren't used in NZ... Except when you really want to light up the road ahead temporarly... Or, is that just me?

Pass button is important for attracting attention if you think someone hasnt seen you.

+1 I often find myself flicking it when approaching side roads where a cager is waiting to do a right hand turn in front of me. Whether it helps or not I have no clue, but even if they sit there thinking "WTF is that tard doing with his headlight" at least they've seen me. (maybe.....)

I also use it to flash a warning to other bikers if i've just been past a snake.

All those things...
HOWEVER, flashing it at people who aren't looking is only a "feel good" thing...
They STILL won't see you if their eyes aren't looking...

I also shut the throttle, and start applying the brakes in those situations....
Then they may think "Why is that idiot slowing down?" Then hopefully realise it was caused by their own indecision..... May Be.
Can't guarantee these people actually think though.

Yeah. And squeeze on the juice as you clear their space - makes it clear to them that you are acting evasively and that they could take more care, or at least make it more obvious that they are.

People who belt right up to the give-way sign at speed while gazing intently in the opposite direction come to mind. grr

Pass button is NOT a wof item. My last 5 bikes or so have had one, and I've never used them, nor had it checked at wof time.
Yours has perhaps been disconnected because of a fault?
