Gasp! And have to shift gear or use feet to operate the vehicle?

The mentality of slow speed = safe for scooters is also amplified by the idea that the legs would be protected by the large bulbulous front of the scooter... Tui anyone?

    It was a 09 150cc Piaggio Fly,not a slow 50cc Scoot.

At least she's on 50km zone, I was one the harbour bridge couple weeks ago, riding along with me full gear on, this dude with absolutely no motorcycle gear but the half face helmet on, zipped past me. no nothing, all he was wearing was helmet, shorts, shirt, jandals on his scooter.. oh, and im guessing undie.

Haven't you heard. According to statistics hi-viz is the safest thing on the planet. No one dies wearing hi-viz.

If Jesus wore Hi-Viz there would be no Easter.

Hi-Viz is the only thing that stops a Chuck Norris Roundhouse kick.

The only people who survived the titanic sinking wore Hi-Viz instead of life jackets.

Chernobyl is currently contained under a layer of Hi-Viz.

I suspect the scooter rider was unable to pay for boots after paying her ACC levy

That's an act of stupidity that is not perculiar to scooter riders. Saw a bloke the size of a large wilderbeast riding a Harley Ultra down the esplanade/beach main drag at Paraparumu Beach. We had just stopped, parked our touring bikes and perched ourselves outside a cafe and were busy pulling off leggings, padded jackets etc and right by rides this guy....short pants, T-shirt, jandels..and a lid...

Jandals have always been an option for as long as I can remember, mainly on cruisers and scooters. They must extend some invisible force field or something but it seems to fail on bikes where the top of the foot is required to change gears, go figure
