First bike for my boys?

Looking to get a wee bike for the kids, Should have about $800 to spend when the time rolls around. Thinking about one of these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=279003182 .
Does any one know anything about them?. The seller is local so I can go have a look before I buy unlike some of the other crap off Trade-Me, I am trying to get something that will fit two kids so need something a bit taller than the regular JR50,crf50 etc. i also like the look of the KTM 50 but worried that they might be a bit grunty first up?. Anyone got any suggestions?.

Hi. Age of kids. And are you planning having them riding two up? Re KTM: My 8yo is racing MotoX and has a Pro Senior (50cc 2 stroke) goes fast! Auto clutch, revs over 10,000!! If yours are planning to race and have been on a bike, then yes. But they need maintenance... If only for fun then I recommend something else. Perhaps a 80cc 4 stroke Honda? Or a older 80cc Suzuki. They are made to use and forget, wheres the KTM's are not.

I had a 90cc Chinese Mamoth (I think they spell it?). Has a chinese version of a Honda CT90 4 stroke motor and 4 gear no clutch. Friendly and not scary. I would avoid the chinese crap. Have heard of parts just falling off them. Go for a JR80 or maybe an older XR80 or similar. $800 may be a little low though for something reliable. My kids started on a JR50, but really only suitable up to around 7 or 8 years old. Once learing on that they went to an XR100 which cost me around $1300 from memory (for a '94 model). But these have clutch, so a little more difficult to learn on.

Yes, the little two stroke 50cc engines are peaky little bitches and not really learner bikes. It might be ok if you adjust the throttle so he cant get it in its' power band. But yeah if you rev them they will bite.

We have a similar 110cc pitbike, but its fooken heavy. I shit you not these things weigh a whole lot - suitable for 12 years up I think, or they will drop it on themselves and squish something. Tough though - we (adults) wheelie, stoppie, and crash it incessantly and it cares not.

Boys are 6 and 7, trying to get something that will fit them both initially, I know this will lead to a world of pain with non stop arguments but finances mean I can only afford one bike at the moment, Might be able to talk the grandparents into chipping in as well. I have tried the boys on a few bikes in some of the local shops to get an idea of what they fit on the older boy is quite tall for his age which makes it very difficult to find something that will fit them both. The best compromise so far has been a Suzuki DRZ70 but this is quite some way over my budget. Wondered if any of the CHCH guys have had any experience of the bike in my original post or the company that is selling them PMTmotorsport/ Jansen Enterprises, They sell welders and that sort of thing in Sockburn?.

I see you are in the chch area. Have you thought about minimoto instead? There is somewhat of a group forming in your area - looking to get some some competitive racing going.

Minimoto bikes are $250 brand new. Each. Cheap! And it's real road racing motogp styles.
