    MotoX wreckers

    Hi guys,

My brother blew up his gearbox & clutch on his KTM SX 125 and after a 2nd hand motor to replace it. Are there any wreckers in NZ for things like this? Or failing this is any one after the bike for bits.

sorry this may be a dumb question, but why does he need a 2nd hand motor if its the gearbox/clutch? clutch is pretty easy to rebuild i would have thought, and gearbox cant be impossible? Has he split a casing? do you know exactly what is wrong?

It's too expensive to get the parts for the clutch & gearbox. over $1k for the bits. So getting a 2nd hand motor with a working clutch/gearbox is the only way it's worth while doing.

there is a few wreckers in teh country that do mx bikes, but finding a whole motor is impossible, due to the reasons you state above, it is very hard to get a mx bike to be unable to be fixed due to anything but a wrecked motor, so wrecked bike with useable motors are very rare,

Hello, I finally found my own login so don't have to get my brother to write everything for me.

Yeah I have a 2001 KTM SX 125. What happened is one of the bearings holding the power valve fly weight shaft decided to give out and dropped the ball bearings into the case. I heard a rattle which would have been these going through everything. I stopped waited for everyone else to finish and was going to ride back to the shed. Well when i kicked it to start one of the idler gears gave out and shattered seizing everything solid. On splitting the case found almost every single gear has damaged or missing teeth.

So at this stage I am looking either for another blown engine with a good gearbox and clutch or will try to sell off the rest of the bike as parts on trademe. I had not long ago redone most of the engine and plastics.
