I see this kind of shit happening most of the time I ride to and from Akaroa on the weekends.

I was right behind Rob at the time and his wheels were definitely no further over than the right hand wheel track. The guy was tightening up into the corner at the time, too. You can see the angle the guy was on as he approaches and he was only getting closer.
From my angle it looked like they had about a foot, maybe 2 between them.
Damn near shat myself.
yeh, did not notice jandals and t-shirt, the usual attire of the feeble minded on bikes, but this guy is not far away from the odd place. idiot.
Looks for sure like a Blue Ninja. Same thing happened on the same stretch of road to me Yesterday... Was just getting into the sharp corners just past Kaiaua and a guy on a cruiser just flew round the corner in the middle of my lane passing a 4x4 and trailer... Real smart. Were the cops there doing the WOF checks outside Clevedon again? Almost got caught for an expired rego there![]()
What I have noticed is that there are some who espouse ATGATT and denounce anyone who does not as an idiot, a moron, nincompoop etc while at the same time riding like this dude - thinking they are invincible in their protective gear, overtaking around blind corners, attempting MotoGP turns on public roads while disregarding other road users etc. I find it utterly hypocritical.
That dude is way more of a menace than some chap riding in jandals and t-shirt off to get some fish'n'chips.
True, but just because something is 'less bad' doesn't make it 'good'. Riding like a suicidal idiot is very bad, riding carefully wearing inadequate protective gear is better (but in my opinion, still bad) but the best by far is wearing protective gear appropriate to where and what you're riding combined with riding carefully, attentively and with respect for other road users.
Sure, I agree with you there. I just have far less tolerance for one than the other (not that we have control over what others choose to do on the roads anyway) because only one is a direct threat to my personal well being.
Regardless of what he wears, if he continues to ride like that he will end up dead or maimed.
He needs to spend a bit more on his training rather than on his leathers.
