Test ride

I'll possibly be going the other way once I get my full — from my lil' 250 v-twin to an IL4 — so I'm quite curious of any traits I need to be aware of when I start test riding. Answer's obvious I guess; just take it easy and be aware that there will be differences.

To be honest I'd say the increase in cc /power will be the biggest thing to worry about, jap fours these days have nice linear delivery, stiff frames and good brakes, the downsides are more weight and 'fat' petrol tanks (cos of the airbox usually!). Might be worth trying a big twin before you go the fourzzzz route?!

I have found the GSXR to be more comfortable than my old SV1000.

I found the daytona more comfortable than sport-tourers as well. I was told I was a freak

Interesting test ride. Here's what I thought:

First up, seat position. Not all that different from the SVS. A little more forward, legs a little more back but not so different as to feel weird, unlike the Daytona 675 when I sat on that. Slightly lower to the ground than the SVS. Apart from getting the right hip cramp when I got on, it was OK...I could travel on it no problem.

Next time, the 750...

Ah yes, the "torture rack" that is the daytona. It's an acquired taste but, as above, I like it.

The 750 is meant to be the better buy anyway isn't it? Is this a post-midlife crisis you going through Slofox? haha... talking about Supersports and all that? I'll give you a high-5 if you buy one. Think of all the fun you'll have.



The two things I noticed about the Daytona compared with the GSXF was the handling and the brakes. This is part of the reason you pay a few thousand more for the sporties. To me, it's worth it.

What I really liked was the way that little machine felt on the road. And the fact that it fitted like a glove...

I'll warn you right now, slofox.... DON'T take a GSX-R600 for a ride unless you are prepared to buy it... you will REALLY like it

Got the SV in for a service tomorrow morning.

Been ogling a GSX600R in the shop for a bit. If all goes well I might get to take it for a pootle while the service is being done...I meantasay, the ACC levy is cheaper so it must be safer yes?

Not sure I should do this - might be the causing of "new bike lusts"...pity someone doesn't give me a couple hundred thousand dollars...any offers?

I'll have to try the 750 to compare the way they ride. Then compare the prices. And then the running costs. And the fuel consumption. And the tyre costs . And the acc levies...an' actually paying...

Some dream machine. I better go test ride every kind of bike in NZ...

Been there done that, I would think twice at your age ol boy before making that move, the SV650 is a damn good bike.
The thrill of high revving engines wears off pretty quick.
V twins have soul.

In 6 months to a year I'm going to have to make the 650 Twin vs 600 IL4 decision. She will not be an easy one.

anyway, i've seen i've came too late: you're fucked. the gixer is one of the best value per money now available. i like the k7 more than the k8 anyway...
truly the 750 is almost my perfect bike, but the 600 is very good too: only issue i had when tested was the heat from the exhaust, and oddly it wasn't there in the 750... boh...

if you can, take it. life's one.
