Long story short, I was done last year for a fender eliminator which was no big deal; $100.00 and one point
about 2 months later (november) we intended to do the long ride which was spoiled by cops, anyway on that day I was done over Mt Mee for a fender eliminator again, however this time they also booked me for the loud exhausts which were 7DB over the limit so this time they attached a sticker which said vehicle not road-wordy (Defect), they removed my rego and number plate and the bike was impounded for 48 hours; the whole scenario ended up costing me $1200.00 So after I picked up my bike I had to fit the OEM parts back on get a RWC which Ozzy did for me and present the bike to Transport Dep to get my new rego. I then went home removed OEM parts and put the yoshi pipes and fender eliminator back on. 3 months later I was stopped again over Nebo as I made my way to meet the others for the Farmers Arms ride. After some checks I was issued with a court summons in which a judge will decide whats to become of my bike.

What goes down in Oz seems to percolate across to NZ, eventually...........

Reads like the boy racer act here in NZ, so bikes may possibly come under the same heading?
I guess they are already (in a way) ... bikers just get done for speed/ rego an warrant.
If the cops wanted to look closer, they could do some bikers for more im sure.

What's the FE law in Oz? I guess the NZ cops could pick on people with FE's that don't have the reflector, or don't have lights lighting up the plate, but surely they have better things to do and can let WOF people worry about those more 'trivial' things??

My brother lives in Canada,and several years ago built himself an XS650 Streetracker - turned an incomplete wreck into really nice bike.Lots of mods of course,but nicely done.No WoF,no certification process,just rode it.After 8 years he was stopped by a Cop because she said she couldn't read the plate.Not just a ticket,he has to get this bike through a certification - and that means back to stock.OE guards,chain guard,indicators of the OE size,same with the headlamp,and many other details of course.Practically impossible,his nice bike he's had for 8 years is off the road....but he's building up another XS650 project,and this one will be able to pass any inspection.

Yep and they don't have guns on them .

Our system seems to pick the eyes out of the stuff the Aussies do, that simply extracts money with the least cost and effort. Its not only the Eftpos type technology that Kiwis like.
I think we have some pain comming tho.

It's all part of the grand scheme to get bikes off the roads, both here and over the ditch.

Yes - no WOF in most states..NSW has one. Apparently in Brissie they were taking bog standard, of the showroom floor bikes off the road because of their (cops) interpretation of the FE law, even though they were ADR'ed and sold as such. ADR is 45 deg angle from a plumb line through the rear axle with bike upright and unloaded. But...depend on the cop....you can be legal and carry a copy of the ADR around with you, but guys are still being yellow stickered......

I looked into the rules regarding plate placement and all that bullocks a while back when I wanted to do something with mine. As long as the plate is readable, lights up, has red reflector and is horizontal, you're sweet. Which makes sense in my view. I know there's issues with car number plate placement and no "stick ons" but bike rules seem to be a little more relaxed.

The mother-in-law got a $200 fine for having a plate that wasn't proper. It was the right colours, reflective on all the right places, but was just bigger so it wouldn't look stupid with her American plate surround. Oh yeah, and it was aluminum not steel. WTF?!?! They stopped making steel plates years ago!

The States seem to have some pretty stupid rules regarding bikes and FE's as well. I really can't see the logic if you have all the right components.
