What's wrong with that? Not like he is going to knock a pedestrian over walking beside his scooter.

I had a scooter undertake me last year during flowing traffic, 30m down the road a car pulls out to do a u-turn and the scooter slams into the side of it. This has happened to me twice, maybe they're trying to run away from me, or perhaps its just what you get when you ride through Auckland city during peak periods.

Dunno about the 'tron but bikes & scoots got every right to be in the bus lane in Auckland. Would anyone complain if a bus passed them on the inside if it was in a bus lane? Nup didn't think so, no different with a scoot.

And Big Dave is right, it is all about conservation of momentum. if someones going even 5k slower than me I'll pass 'em, takes too long to recover that speed back again, especially if we're heading uphill. Even more so with flatspotted rollers lol. (I really should replace those).

Scooter riders seem to be "immune" to the forces of machine and nature.

At least Scooters don't undertake you at a large speed difference. Have been undertaken this weekend at a traffic light. Silly me decided that dark yellow and still at least 50m to the light might be the time to actually stop. So I applied brakes and stayed left. Car in the right lane had the same idea and stopped next to me (in his lane) so far so good. Just before I could put my foot down a car speeds past at least doing 70 kph on my left on the bus lane. Not only just barely missing me, but also running a by now red light. Teaches you to be considerate and brake. That is a lot unsafer these days.

Of all the near misses that a rider deals with on a daily basis or (triply? bases), nearly being rear ended is the problem I cant seem to find a tactic for.
Filtering helps and not sitting behind a cars stop lights at night makes a difference but but fark its been close sometimes...

Scooters somehow think that they are imune to normal rules of the road when it comes to other bikes, like bikes are to cars. Maybe they believe that they are fasterand more manouverable than every other vehicle?

I was at the front of a queue at a red traffic light the other day, and a scoot filters through, goes past ME (and there was space behind me), and pulls in front of me...
WTF? Now if a 'Blade or Busa or other some such hyperbike did that I might understand it, since they can pull off faster than me (maybe), but FFS that thing was justa blockade. That's just damn inconsiderate.

So when the lights turned green, I undertook him... only to be expected I reckon.

Use to say in the road code, always keep as far left as possible, especially when cruising. This is courteous driving (Not enforced or seen much now).
How did a car pass you on the left,on a single lane road? That means there was at least a car width between you and the gutter.
Speed limit on Rifle Range Road is 50km/hr. My indicated 55k would be very close to 50k in reality. (7% over-read on best estimate). And no, I didn't check the cycle lane because I was turning right, not left...

The car undertook on another road altogether and used the large shoulder area of that road to get by in. I was occupying the regular lane in about what I would regard as the "right" place - i.e. right wheel track. The lanes on that particular road are clearly marked. There is only one vehicle lane each way.

Nothing really wrong with it. Just an observation.

My "bloody outrageous" at the end was more of a sarcastic afterthought.

Yeah you have a fair point there,I do sometimes try and keep momentum when on the scooter, but not if it's dangerous etc..
