So, after a period of procrastination...

i bought a bike- did my learners a few weeks ago and then put the whole thing on the back burner as, even though i passed, i felt i wasnt going to "get it" when it came to riding properly.
i almost went out and bought another scooter (albeit one bigger than 50cc) but then i decided i had to stop being such a wuss and just do it.
so to that end i took delivery of a nice shiny gn250 on friday. it sat in the garage until this morning when free of a hangover ithought bugger it, got on, started it up, and away i went.

well what can i say other than thank fuck i didnt buy a scooter!

i had thought a total of an hours lifetime riding experience on a geared bike wasnt going to be enough to have me riding confidently in traffic......but it was....and how!!!! only downside was i had to bear in mind the learners do not pass 70kmh thing grrrrrrr.

anyway thats enough of that, just had so share, now im off out again

Welcome to the world of motorcycles....Just be careful out there as you are riding and please, eyes wide open...keep a good look around you at all times, scan everything you can in front of you....dont just look 2 or 3 cars ahead, but look further, as far as you can to keep an eye out for dangers...after a while you really get to read the dangers out there and act accordingly...just be safe, thats all I say...

Good on ya, the GN250 is a good place to start. And yes the 70km limit can be a bit of a pain in the arse but it wont be for too long.

+1 for keeping your eyes well ahead of you and really be aware of cages on the road too, they don't always give bikers the consideration they should get. Have fun and happy riding.

thanks for the advice- think ive tried myself out with my sense of hypervigilance!! never been so conscious of whats around me before. there were one or two people i think i knew what they were going to do before they did! personal safety is a very good friend of mine

Congrats, have fun, be sensible (well, a bit), and remember, they are all trying to kill you. Don't forget to keep your bike clean and dry otherwise it will rust atrociously (former GN owner here...)

Keep your eyes open, watch for the morons trying to kill you etc etc.

If you've already been riding a scooter then you'll possibly find it easier on the GN, at least you can ride with the traffic rather than trying to stay out of the way going slower than everybody else.
