Time we got our perspective out there

This is over Paul Brown's crash. To most of us it's pretty plain - the cop did a U turn in a stupid place and Paul paid, but there are a lot of citizens out there who see us as speed crazed loonies, and on the Campbell Live website is a discussion over the event where a lot of people are blaming the crash on Paul (or his mate in the ute).

I think it's a good time for us to stand up and put our story out there and explain that we're at risk from dangerous car drivers all the time, and that the police need a different policy to avoid killing more of us. The article is here: http://www.3news.co.nz/Motorcyclists...7/Default.aspx

Lol... I can't believe the comments.

"Convince me that the motorcyclist was the rare breed that wasn't speeding"

    ^ To this guy,

Would you be saying the same thing if it was your son? Or wife? It doesn't matter a fuck if he was speeding or not, the pig should NOT have been doing a u-turn there.

It is unfortunate that the general public do see motorcyclists as risk taking, adrenalin junkies that like to flout the law. Its this very image that attracts alot of young men to bikes in the first place.

he's a typical self righteous citizen in a cage. He indignantly "tut tuts" when he sees us riding our meticulously maintained bikes at 120 kmh while he has a conversation with his wife, enjoys a snack and changes the station on his radio. He doesn't see the bike in his mirror when he pulls out to slowly gring past a car, he doesn't realise that the scooter he has just overtaken is now in the gravel and out of control and he doesn't realise that there is a bike in his blind spot when he changes lanes.

But he never speeds and never drinks and drives, so he is a safe and responsible driver.

I've just watched the video in that link. I gotta say, it's a very balanced discussion from all points of view. Well done to Campbell Live.

i witnessed a scooter rider wearing shorts and t shirt go straight through a red light in dunedins main st today, then 5 mins later he came back weaving between cars totally oblivous to what was happening arround him so not all motorcyclists fit into your view of things

I'm not talking about "all motorcyclists", I'm talking about the attitude that if you're not speeding you're driving safely and that speed is the biggest problem on the roads. And there are a lot of scooter and bike riders that I'd like to ban from 2 wheels.

i think the paul brown incident highlights the dangers all road vehicles face when people including cops do stupid manouveres on the road.
its just really really unfortunate that it was a motorbike that came over the blind rise and hit the cop car, and not a cage.
