    Undertaken by a Scooter...

So I had fuelled up and was heading out Rifle Range Road to make the trip to Raglan for a morning coffee. Pootling along, 55k on the clock, just steady, no rush etc etc...

Ears pick up a buzzing noise - like a wasp in a tin..."wazzat?" I asks meself...it's near my left ear.
Bugger me, along the cycle lane on my left comes a little scooter - squeezes past just before the intersection...

Well I was a little surprised I guess...not often I get passed on the left on a single lane road... I wondered why he didn't just pass on the right in the approved fashion..?

Followed him through the roundabout, just sat behind him and watched the little buzzer buzz its way along. He exited stage left while I continued on round...

I wondered if it had made his day, or whether he did it all the time or just what?

He was a little lucky I suppose that I hadn't been planning a left turn at the intersection...but then he would have seen the indimicator wouldn't he and not gone past...maybe... 'cause I sure as hell didn't expect him there...

Perchance I should monitor the left mirror more... (or stay awake when riding...)

I live by my own code!

Being undetaken by a scooter is nothing though. I was pootling along at around 50kph and got undertaken by a fuckin' VAN! Serves me right for not sitting on 60kph in a 50 zone I suppose.

Last one that did it to me was wearing Jandals, shorts and a singlet. I thought that was excellent.

Last time for me it was a car. Driven by a large lady who looked as though she might have been born in some hotter clime, judging by her suntan...

I must have been half asleep this morning - I didn't even see this dude coming. And when I got to Raglan, I missed the fact that there was a major fire burning down at the wharf - even though I wondered where all the smoke was coming from - and why, on the way home, there were fire trucks and ambos etc heading out from The Tron...

    I think I'm having a "durrrrrrrrrr" day...

Not sure whats the speed limit on rifle range road? Even push bikes can do 55kms so it would pay for you to check the cycle lane, before a Left turn.
Use to say in the road code, always keep as far left as possible, especially when cruising. This is courteous driving (Not enforced or seen much now).
How did a car pass you on the left,on a single lane road? That means there was at least a car width between you and the gutter.

I've been undertaken twice in the last three years. The first time was my fault for not being more aware of what was happening behind me and the second time I watched as the guy in the people mover went on by on the inside.

The worst instance of this sort of crap was when I was about number four in a queue of cars stopped at a pedestrian crossing near a school. Scooter Clown comes through on the inside and blasts right over the crossing with people on it. Unbelievably ignorant use of the road.

Not what you mean - but there is a basis for it.
All small capacity engines operate by the code of conservation of momentum, to some degree, in traffic.

I saw a scooter rider in the central city, pull up to a red light hop off, and push his scooter through the intersection with all of the paedestrians crossing with the lights.

    bloody outrageous.
