The prediction (when I left work yesterday) is that Wanaka will peak just short of the first flood warning level (279.4 m), but Wakatipu would exceed level 2 (311.3 m) around midnight last night. There was more rain was in the Dart/Rees area than Matukituki/Makarora, but overall the entire Clutha catchment is in flood. We are well into phase 2 flood proceedures at Clyde and Roxburgh, but don't expect it get to phase 3 (1600 cumecs)

    Update as of 9:04am

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3641...-as-lake-rises

Lake Wakitipu has reached the spillover point, says Queenstown mayor Clive Geddes, with businesses in the resort town bracing for flooding.

Overnight rain has seen the lake rise by around 10cm, to a level of 311.405m at 5am.
Water had now reached the doors of the Novotel and staff had moved some guests from ground floor rooms.

It it were anchored, tied and in a boat it would be, jetty totally submerged now, no pole tops in site and water starting to come onto the carpark.

The bike at that height would be up to the tank in water

Hmm... time to invent somekind of raft for the bike that hangs the back wheel off the end for propulsion. What kind of tyre would be needed tho?

I reckon it has peaked and it will subside from here.

Not quite at the peak, but the remaing rise will be only a few mm. The outflow only increased 7 cumecs in the past 3 hours, but at 706 cumecs is the highest we've seen for years. Just as well this weather hit in April and not in November or it would be twice as much water coming in.
