Glen Curtis was born today in 1878

In 1907 at Ormond Beach, Florida, he reached the record speed of 136 miles per hour (219 kilometers per hour) on his motorcycle powered by a 40-horsepower (30-kilowatt), V-8 engine. He began to be called "the fastest man alive."

I had never heard of this guy before.
He was quite an achiever, and came up with quite a few firsts in motorcycling and aviation.

    Thanks for the interesting info.

Ever notice that anyone slower than you is an idiot, but anyone going faster is a maniac?

Well the speed record wasn't officail as it was only timed one way and he broke the driveshaft or something before completing the return run.

The V8 was 4000cc and put out 40hp according to the info on the net.

http://glennhcurtiss.com/id32.htm has a couple of pics of the bike and his production models as well.

    Look like HD's to me.
