Hardcore Biker
Looking for some advice from the collective intelligence on this site...am looking for a sports tourer to about $10k that will be comfortable two up..have looked at Blackbird and ZRX1100 and will ride XJR1300..any thoughts on these or other suitable bikes would be appreciated

I've ridden the Blackbird and found it too sanitised and too fast for lengthy possession of drivers licenses.
Now I've got an XJR 1300 SP and they're bloody good.

rode the blackbird with my wife..she was getting fairly buffeted and we were only doing 110kph. The XJR looks a little more restrained..any tips or things I should look for?

Blackbird is the best bike I've ever owned. Sanitised = it does most things effortlessly. Do a search on this website for Blackbird and you'll find plenty of material. Use your right hand or a radar detector for license control.
After endlessly poring over brochures, the final choice will be what your heart tells you. Good luck!

BTW, my wife loves it for its absence of buffeting so I'm stumped by that one. Clearly, Zed has that view too.

Ms Biff had a similar complaint when she first got on the back of the BiffBird – a complaint soon remedied by investing in a double bubble screen (approx $180 for a decent one). But Ms Biff is taller than average (for a fem) standing at 5' 10". My shorter mates have never complained about buffeting.
Go for the Bird!
Very powerful, but forgiving and silky smooth. Great for long distance riding, but bad for speeding. It's deceptively fast, so you need to keep an eye on the speedo.
XJR1300 - IMHO - soft rear end. Don't get sold on the fact that the rear end is under the control of an Ohlins. It's non adjustable, and cheap n nasty. And if you think that pillions get any better protection at the back of a naked bike......

You could buy 2 Old CBR1000FL's for that. They tour well. Hardy know there's a pilllion there & not complaints of buffeting. Pull as well (if not better) than most Tourers, but not as fast as Bird's, Busa's, and ZXR's (still has a top of 260KPM but).
Seriously, it all depends on what you want. If a more upright position is your liking then you'll find the Bird and Busa to low (unlease you put handel bar raisers in them).
Go arould the bike shops and drive them nuts by try all the different ones they have and then tell them you need to go home to decide which one you want. Once you have decide which is the model of bike you want in your price range, get familar with them (what they price should be, what problem do they have, etc.), then see if you can find the bike in the condition and price you would like.
Save heaps doing that way went I bought "Roxanne" (good $3000 less than what the shops wanted for very simlar bikes). She was the right bike for the right time for me. At the end of the day that's what matters. The bike has to be one that suits you
PS: Never be in a hurry to buy (you'll get done).
