If you have read THIS thread, you will know that I was stupid enough to take a 600 gixxer out for a test ride. Now I have lost interest in the SV and want the gixxer. But I have to spend money to make the swap - at a time when I am under some financial duress...There is some (most actually) of the money there, but I should use it to reduce my bank loan. AND I have to find a couple G of my own on top of that...this is keeping me awake at night - part of me says "ahhh fukkit - get the friggin bike before you die or get too old to ride it" and the other bit (carping bloody bit) says "be sensible - you'll regret spending that money on yet another toy..."

So, dear KB'ers, what would your collective wisdom advise? Financial security or new bike?

    Votes please...
I went through this pain a couple of years ago. I was then fortunate enough to get told to go faark myself by my crap employer, which was just enough cash to buy the bike I was struggling to justify.

Putting a younger (yet probably wrong) view on it.

you are obviously taken by this bike. How bad is the financial things, no details needed, just on a scale of 1 to "Melbourne storm"

If it's melbourne storm, then leave it obviously. But Money can be earnt if the financial troubles are not thaaat bad.

    Hope it helps.

Wasn't it you that posted a few months back that you had made the final payments on the SV?

I'd say if you still have the same kind of repayment coin available, and the other financial circumstances haven't changed then go for it. The way I look at mine is "If i got really in the shit and had to quit at half market value for a quick sale, other than the pain of losing that money would it clear any debt owed?" (or 75% of market value, or whatever risk you are prepared to carry).

I hate to be the voice of reason but if you are stressed about money now, have a good bike already, and have a bank loan, you could end up hating the bike if you loan further money to get it. I say pay off your loan...then sort a new bike. It is easy to save, even just a little, when you are debt free, but it is fuckin hard to get ahead when you even have the smallest loan over your head.

One more thing. If you could have afford it, you would have gone and bought it already.

Yeah that was me. But I sure don't want to deal with MTF again - too expensive. But i wouldn't have to do that - just use ALL of the bank funds instead of giving a little back...

The current bike has 42,600km on it. Another year will increase that to around 60,000k. At which point it would lose lotsa value. Rather flick it now...

This is true...and using this reasoning to do/buy something is why some people get in the shit also why I've had to "retrain" the wife as to not going out and buying whatever she wants because "you only live once". I'm not talking girly things like clothes, I'm talking shit like cars.

But I do totally agree. You don't want to not do something and continue life kicking yourself saying I should of. I have regretted doing a few things (that cost money) but managed to sort through it without too much difficulty. It's when you really stretch yourself that the shit will hit the fan eventually.

This is similar to what I was going to suggest of "sell more wine".

A car salesman once told me that when he thought he had someone about cornered, he'd ask them what he could do that would make them sign up there and then. Bike shops want to sell bikes, maybe ring them and say take another grand off the price (or another grand for your bike, or whatever) and the deal is done, and see what happens. Worst they can do is laugh in your face... and if you're that close that it's hard to pick either way, see if they can essentially make the decision for you (cause it sounds like it's all about the money). And take the 750 for a hoon, and an early model GSXR1000, you'll loooooove the torque (and they're cheap!).

42,600 happy Km's - until that strumpet of a gixxer came along and turned your head, stroked your ego and caused inappropriate erections. She is only after your money, you know. Oh sure it seemed harmless at first, the odd smile, a sly glance in her direction, a relaxed laugh at a little joke shared.

What of the tags? Oh those tags, didn't you and the SV have so much fun collecting tags together, the fine spring mornings, the warm summer nights and those long autumn afternoons together, just the two of you, taking happy memories.

But no, you want the curves, those long legs, you hear her voice in your dreams, that those not so smitten would most likely call a high pitched whine.

She glistens there with her painted face, it's all for show you know, once she has you hooked the spots and blemishes will appear...

Ooops sorry - need a tissue now, maybe I'll go take her for a ride myself - you know she's that kind of girl...

You believed a car salesman? Especially that one lol? But yes, you are right. The saying 'If I couldja would ya?' comes to mind. In other words, 'if I could only pay x amount, would you accept it'. Except we used it in reverse, 'if I could get you $200 more for your trade, would you sign up now?'.
