Round the Kaimais with the Aussie

Miss cc rider and I launched off on a little adventure today on the Beemer.
We headed for Tauranga and stopped off at Brownies Motorcycle Museum and Brewery.
There were a few bikes in at lunchtime as well as ordinary folk having lunch and drinkies.
Browny now has a better display of bikes. two nice AJS' guarding the door and at least 7 other bikes scattered amongst the tables.
We meandered through Tauranga in a serpantine fashion cos cc, being new to the country wants to see all there is to see....
A quick blat up the Kaimais and we had coffee at the Kaimai Cafe and then cruised down to McLaren Falls. The spillway was open and the rafters were loving it!- Hundreds of river rats in boats sleds and rafts!
Lake McLaren was just beautiful in the autumn - photos below..

As we neared the top of the Kaimais we came across a fruitloop tourist who had just flipped his rental car on a straight piece of downhill road by dropping a wheel into the gravel and displaying complete incompetance by chucking it onto its roof! He was being attended to by the constabulary as we passed.

Lunch in Matamata at 4.30ish! - well, we had been having a good time and forgot to stop.. then we hooked off toward Te Aroha along the old Te Aroha Road that runs along the base of the ranges.
At Thompsons Track- I couldn't resist.... I suggested to Miss Rider that we should see if the Beemer had what it takes to get to the clouds. So, two up, on road tyres- we hit the side of the Kaimai Ranges and climbed. No shit, we were at the top in 20 minutes!

Me, having a pee in the bushes and cc rider running around licking clouds.

On the way down- we passed a quadbike rider and 4 guys in a Nissan Safari who just couldn't believe what they were seeing.
What looked to them - like a nice shiny red road bike- two up - in the bush - 1/2 way up a mountain - in the dark........

Good on'yas. "Proper" adventuring. Inappropriate bikes and spurs of the moment can make the trips even more memorable.
