As to erik i go to MIT and while bike parking is free around the building the locker situation really sux. So i end up carrying my gear around. Which is not as bad as some people think. As to parking tickets i have parket in some rather perculiar places but as long as you bike doesn't hinder pedestrians i don't think there is a problem.

anyways i actually have a question myself... when you go into those parking places I.e underground aotea one, Civic parking area thingy, u all know what i mean.. and u go up to the big arm and pull out the ticket, then ride in and park..   are you meant to pay that on the way out? every one ive ever been in ive just been like, meh, look a gap the perfect size for my little 400 to fit thru alongside the big arm.  So yeah just wanting to get rid of that guilty feeling that maybe oneday my bike will b towed or something coz rego on camera? im sure it is meant to be like that and bikes are free right? everywhere?

One little problem with my car park: there's a chain with padlock on both entrance and exit. To stop unauthorized parking the chain is put across between 9 and 4. Those who are authorized have a key. The exit chain is at the bottom of a steep, narrow ramp. No problem for car drivers: put on the handbrake, get out, remove the chain, drive off. Once I left early and forgot about the chain until I was halfway down the ramp.

KK, the Civic car park is definitely free for bikes. You don't take a ticket, just ride round the barrier arm, leave the bike in the special reserved area, and at the exit ride round the barrier arm again. I can't comment on other car parks e.g. Wilsons - may well be different.
