This may kind of overlap my previous post but what is everyones opinion as to the purpose of the 5.5mm pin as shown on this page from the manual?

in my opinion, i think it acts on the lever attached to one end of the spring, and provides tension for the spring which is acting against the lever and arm coming up from the crank case. without the pin, both levers move and the spring never really acts on anything?

i cant really test the effect on power as its quite late and it will get way too smokey in the shed way too quick if i try in there lol!

oh, and there was no pin in there when i pulled the powervalve cover off btw - i just fashioned one up from a 5.5mm drill bit to try.

yeah sorry, ignore me i think, i think you are right about it being used to set up because im pretty sure if you leave it there it will stop the powervalve shaft from turning at all! which is kind of a bugger cause thats me back at square one!

looks like it stops the valve going more open than open, though kinda hard to tell from just diagrams, it looks like there is fuck all travel on the flap valves if both pins are in there though?

With my 98 the spring doesn't really do anything under normal operation, more of a buffer to stop them slamming open/closed with full force.

pm me your address and I can come offer a second opinion on my way to work tomorrow, this usually occurs sometime between 9am and 11am (gotta love student life ), or in evening if you are working during the day.
