Ian if you're leaving BP at 8.30 and taking the route through port waikato, Limestone downs, te akau etc I doubt you'll be in raglan by 10 even at a cracking Ktm pace........

NEXT WEEK I will put up a route with something resembling sensible plans, haven't you got work to do or something?

OK, cheers CM, I'll keep tuned in. No electronics here except a fixed KTM EFI ! I have to make do with paper maps and memory - that's my excuse for getting lost, anyway...

Oscar, Ruapuke sounds like a good possibility...

Exhaust repairs seem to be holding at the moment so i'm still on. Looks like another week of missing waterpolo! Oops.

Sorry going to have to bail, too much going on. And damn it all I have some fresh rubber on the back that really needs to look note quite so fresh.

    A plan!

Thanks Oscar for checking the roads, should we look out for bodies?

The incredibly detailed and organised plan (with more credible travel times allowed) is as follows….thanks to Andy for reminding me I ride slow, bastid!.

0830 depart Papakura BP (the Autobahn on the southern motorway), I will be there a bit earlier cause I need a coffee so look out for an orange 640 Adventure if you don’t know who I am (mature bald git).

0900 at the Tuakau bridge over the Waikato.
From there via Onewhero - Tuakau road to Klondyke road and so to Port Waikato.
Follow the coast down to Pukerewa road, Te Akau coast road, Ruakiwi road to the Raglan – Hamilton road.

1100, stop at Te Uku for fuel then towards Kawhia via Te Mata road and the Kawhia road (not around the mountain).
Kawhia for lunch and a bit of a visit to Aotea, cause I’ve never been there, then back via Kawhia road to Whaanga road around the mountain to Raglan about 0230.

Coffee or a beer at Raglan and then home either on 22 or via the gravel if there is enough time.

For those meeting up, pick a time and place that suits and let me know so I can at least expect someone to be there. If it’s too difficult to be sure of your attendance just turn up where it suits, usually I’m pretty good at keeping to a timetable so the times should be accurate-ish.

Dean, I will bring that jacket with me so let me know how to get it too you...I'm not planning on visiting Hamilton!

Feel free with suggestions and comments, I'm more than happy to accomodate anything anatomicaly possible.

    Iain

    Gidday CM et al,

I went down there yesterday. Oscar, I saw your bike parked there with a couple of others near the walk zone at Whaanga. Sorry, I decided I'd put the $20 entry fee into fuel and clocked up ~600km.

I went down Kawhai Rd (Bridal Veil Falls turn-off) to Te Papatapu Rd. You'll note it says road closed on Bridal Veil Falls road. There're a couple of gates near the south end of the road (Kawhia Rd) which 4x4 traffic has just driven around easily. Then I headed out to the main Kawhia road (31). Note there seem to be TWO KAWHIA ROADS. The roads are tight and slow (relative to your timetable, maybe) but I'm sure everyone will enjoy them. Hmmm, should I dig out that Conti or that 1/3 used Dunlop?? I'm on Scorps...

I'll probably meet you guys at Te Uku to. Although I've just tracked your route on google and that top section looks good to... I may even try to meet at 09:00hrs... no sense in wasting a couple of hours of good riding time!

C.H.R.I.S, my mate's got no bike at the moment, he'd be more than happy (& capable) to scrub in your tyres for you!

    Cheers

The Bridal veils route (Kawhia road) is worth taking, not having been down there for a while I wasn't sure if access was still available throught the farmers paddock, I assume from what you have posted that you went throught there?

Be good to meet you next weekend, good luck deciding about tyres!

yeah they cleared most of the slip so its an easy ride along the road now, never mind the road closed sign thats just for cagers, but fark it we still use the paddocks and river xings cause where adventure riders

Not far Deano...Te Uku to Kawhia is about 50kms, there's fuel there, about the same back to raglan and there's fuel there, unless you've got a 2 litre tank you should be fine.

Repeat after me...what could possibly go wrong?
