How about this for a rule then...If my vehicle is bigger than yours and or I am in a vehicle and you are on foot then you give way to me....
That makes way more sense LOL
Good to see everyone is reading the Road Code and Berries you are so so correct on the indicating at Round Abouts when going straight ahead...you only signal to leave it and yes it does piss every one off when people signal right so you stop and then they turn left and leave....makes you want to throw your toys from the cot...grin

I checked the NZTA and its the same as Ixion posted. Maybe you can point out the part where it states that the pedestrian has to be completely clear of the crossing before you can proceed?

    Interesting sub-topic here.

The traffic police don't enforce the road code.

Almost every week I have someone tell me that the correct following distance is 2 seconds, coz that's what it says in the road code. Sadly, we actually enforce the legislation, not the road code, and the legislation doesn't mention the 2 second rule.

For the record, at 50 km/h one must follow at 20 metres behind. Like, does anyone ever do that? At 50 km/h you are going 13.8 metres per second, so if you are 2 seconds back you are 27.6 metres, easlily complying.

I haven't looked at the road code for years, but I am lucky enough to have to read the legislation most days at work.

    So there

It would certainly make more sense if the road code was rewritten to accurately reflect the actual Rule it is based on rather than being full of pretty pictures for all those people leaving the NZ education system who can't reed or right.

If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

I had to laugh when i heard this story yesterday.
Young girl riding down a slip road on her bike, coming up to those on-ramp signals before you join the motorway. Grabs a hand ful of front brake and her calliper fell off leaving her with no front brake! She zoomed through the, at the time, red light and glanced off a stationary car parked on NZs biggest car park, SH1.
A copper (NOT the filth, i've been pulled up on this already) witnessed all this because he was parked in the queue, came along and after watching this poor girl pick her bike up and get abused by the car owner, gave her a ticket for running a red light!

    Building safer communities together.

    Popo are poohs....... lol

I guess in any light really, anyone who takes pride in issuing infringement notices to motorists is doomed to be hated from the get go.....
It could be eased if the popo actually took an interest in people and held there regard in mind and educated them in the ways of "Building safer communities Together" and "Always Blow On The Pie".
I, for the first time ever, interacted with a pleasant popo yesterday, whilst undergoing the ticketing process. I still argued my point, respectfully and with courtesy. The Popo replied with a pleasant and well mannered demeanor. I was impressed, he is still a NOB though, cause he gave me a ticket, but rest assured he is not as big a NOB as the dipshit piggypoohs out there........

I am freindly really, I only bite when provoked
