I purchased a Suzuki Intruder (250cc) off Trademe this weekend, and it only came with one set of keys plus the serial number (for the keys, I'm assuming).
I went to Sylvia Park to get the keys copied, but the copied keys just don't work at all ...
Do I have to contact the local Suzuki dealership or something to get a backup set of keys?

Edit: Assuming it didn't work because it wouldn't fit in the ignition. How did it not work?

You could also replace the barrel and get two new keys... I'm always suspicious/ untrusting of individuals who only have one key

I went to a proper place - Armstrong or Chubb?? Call around and see who has the proper blanks and will cut them. I found with my Suzukis that it was easier to go direct to the locksmith that get the blanks from the bike shop.

I assume they are like my husband........... he lost my cars keys and the alarm thingy too and then blamed me......
I don't know about the barrell though - I lost my keys to a 125 mudbug and Suzuki said $500 for a new barrell!!!!!

Did you copy the keys ... or got one made as per the serial number ???
Ignition may have been changed ... but may still fit the tank filler cap, and the seat lock. (comnon enough in/on older bikes)

I got Suzuki keys cut no problem at a local locksmith (not a Mall kiosk) for about $10 each. No problems with them.

I got a key cut for a Kawasaki a few years back, worked in the ignition just fine.
2 hours later in the middle of fuckknows I found it wouldn't open the petrol cap.
and after snapping it off in the petrol cap......wouldn't start the bike.

I just got the keys copied at the mall. I honestly don't know much about keys/barrels. I just assumed that I could copy them?
They don't work in the sense that they don't even turn at all when I put them in.

i dont have any experience with this model, how old is it?
some later model bikes have 'chip' keys that have to be coded......(wouldnt explain why it wouldn't turn though)
its probably just a rough cut, it might just need tidying up a bit (if you have a bench grinder try giving it a good going over with a wire brush wheel)

A lot of the time new keys will be stiffer and harder to turn than the original key. This is because the old key and the lock have worn as they have been used. Try moving the key up and down and wiggling it in the lock. If still nothing happens remove the ignition lock barrel, there should be a three digit code stamped into it somewhere. A key can be cut from this. Is the tooth profie of the cut key the same as the original? Has to be asked, you understand.
