I had several of these bikes - particularly the first one - and a similar story.
It wasn't a clutch - it was a clutch cable on a CL90.

My Grandfather gave me my first mini-bike.
My Mum says it was when I was 2 years old and it had a lawn mower engine. I don’t remember much about it other than burning myself on the exhaust and it was rusty. And how happy I was when he bought me a ‘real’ mini bike.
