Epic battle to get home plus question for you lot!

Wow, what is it with me and lil grey cars and their drivers trying to kill me?! Luckily I always slow down when I see a car at an intersection up ahead. I had a near miss with a lil grey hatchback pulling out on me along Jackson St Petone which ended up with me sliding the back tyre up the road toward the car until I realised that I should probably have been less brutal with the back brake whilst riding over oil!
I just composed myself from that dim wit when yet another dim wit in yet ANOTHER lil grey hatch back pulled out in front of me. Of course this guy has earned the name toss pot as he slowed down, waited until I was 2 metres away and then pulled out again. This ended in me riding my front tyre into his passenger door him pulling the fingers and then driving off.... IM a bit pissed off but my bike is as pretty as always and I kept it upright. Made a bit of noise on impact though so hopefully he may remember it for awhile!

Anyway my question is in relation to the steel/metal joiner things they have on the roads over the joins on bridges. I know the FXR is a mighty powerful bike but does anyone else find that there tyres slip and slide a bit going over these in a straight line in the wet or should I be checking my bike over?

I certainly wouldn't want to be in full lean going over one of the meatal expansion joints in the wet, but in a straight line I wouldn't expect the bike to do anything but keep going in a straight line unless you were under heavy accelleration or braking.

Its only a slight slip but it is a little disconcerting. My front tyre is pretty new too...

So he left the scene of an accident? Or no? I'd have thought you'd want to stop and check out your bike etc, swap details in case he caused some damage......?!

Its quite normal that wet rubber on wet steel has virtually no attraction at all. Ask those that have come to grief on the deck or link span of the ferries when they are wet. Glad to hear you came out of this series of incidents OK all the same.

A few months back a car hit me from behind at a set of lights and drove away while I was still lying on the ground! I am not to worried about this toss pot and I have NO damage and I assume he has visible damage from the noise that the impact made. I was slowing down so was only doing 20-30k's at most but had I have been going any faster I may have come off alot worse!

The one's they have on the harbour bridge are quite large, if it's wet I button off a tad whilst I'm going over them otherwise the backend gets twitchy and the revs jump through the roof! Having said that it's all over in a flash.

The main street of Petone is a street i avoid if possible.You know the reason why,relatively narrow,because mostly angle parking both sides,angle parking is poor for visibilty when trying to leave a park...lots of little shops with poor signs.....

THE FXR (of doom) must be one of the best bikes I have ever bought! I have done some really spectacular work on it since I have had it. You should see the tyre mark on the tank!!

Yeah, it is all over pretty fast. Even if the revs jumped through the roof on the FXR it'd be nothing dramatic, lol!

I was wondering if there may have been something up with my bike. I don't get the same feeling when I ride the VFR in the wet. Maybe it's cause the FXR is so light that I can feel everything it does!

Yeah, I just ride close to the centre line with my hand over the brake and watch every car for movements. I have found that standing up on my bike when someone is at an intersection can help the driver see me sometimes too!
