Is this what it looks like? (lightly slashed tyre)

noticed this when I got home today, looks like someone has had a go at my rear tyre, unless there is something else that may cause this sort of thing? though as its across the whole tyre and a pretty clean cut I can't think of anything also doesn't look like it happened all that recently (though I did pull a nail out of it a few weeks ago).

Obviously its time for a new tyre anyway, but want to avoid such shit happening to my new one.

it just looks like you have ridden over something with a sharp edge, anybody with half a brain would slash a tyre through the side wall.

That is the point that the manufacturerer joined, spliced, the tread together. It is quite a common sight on worn tyres. I have seen it on reasonably new tyres too, but not often. It seems to be more apparent on cheaper tyres, than the more expensive ones.
I wouldn't worry about it, the tyre looks like it will wear out before the splice gives away.

ah yup, is a pirelli sport demon so wouldn't class that as cheap, but it is at the end of its lifetime.

either case, sounds like no need to worry bout it then

I have seen something similar on here before, I believe then it was put down to where the tread is joined on the tyre?

The tyre factorys have chosen you as their secret test pilot, best spend 1/2 hour before each ride checking tyres to see what thay have done
