hi caz, welcome to kiwi biker. i'm a newby too (also a student). hoping to get a 250 really soon =). just read your posts and noticed that you copy and paste comments to your replies. what i figured out on this site is that down the bottom right of each post, it says: "reply with quote". so you can quote the persons comment you are replying to. hope that makes sense/helps you on this site.

Hi all - I am going for my bhs test this weekend and looking at bikes already!! I was originally looking at getting a dual purpose yamaha xt250 or a suzuki dr250 but I am no longer with my partner who was into adventure riding. I am now wondering whether to keep looking at a dual purpose bike or to go for just a road bike like the gn250. How much offorad would you do on a trip away around nz? Or on the saturday morning rides? I have only been a pillion before and a bit worried about how i will go riding a bike. What is the best for learning on that won't cost too much. It seems I can get a newer gn250 for less money than one of the dual purpose ones. I am in Auck - are there any newbies on here who rides in auck>

hi odie. im a newby (in chch). when i was hunting for my first bike a looked at road bikes. (i couldnt see myself heading off road often enough to buy a dual purpose). seeing as you and your partner are no longer together, does the dual purpose bike still appeal? its all up to personal preference. in regards to the gn250, its a great learner bike, but you might get sick of it after a while (depending on how often your on the motorways up there, as it might battle to go 100...) there are heaps of gn250 owners on here who will give you a full rundown on the bike. just becareful with the 2004 and newer ones as i believe they rust on the exhasut abit. (chinese made you see).
hope that helped a baby bit.
