Question Why do GP riders wear tape on their nose ?

I was watching the GP and saw them all with a tape thing on their noses, It may be (and probably is) obvious but I cannot work it out .
    is it to stop wind?
is it cause other bikes smell?
    Is it becaue they smell?
is it because they have a cold and dont want snot to run out there noses?

    Look forward to your answers

I use them at night when I have a sinus infection. It helps spread your nostrils for greater oxygen uptake. Riding a bike at that level is pretty athletic and some riders/drivers find that wearing a helmet can cause congestion when they least need it.

Heaps of sports people wear them. They open the nostrils so you can breath better.

All the F1 drivers wear them, think some of the AB's wear them aswell. Been round for a while, haven't tried them though.

You can get them from a chemist. They are really good if you need lots of oxygen and to breath clearer (kinda like permanently flaring your nostrils). They are also used to stop snoring.

For permanent results, just ream out your nasal septum. Or sniff too much cocane. Either way will increase the volume of air you can breathe in.And does it make any difference? No.
It may make you feel better about it, but there is no significant increase in o2, or any performance.

A lot of soccer players in the UK wear them. I might give them a go for the snoring thing, before my better half decides on a more radical solution that involves amateur surgery with a kitchen knife.

I understand that they work really well for some snorers. Anything's better than an elbow in the ribs just as Kylie Minogue is hopping off the back of your dream sportsbike...

Nah. Premiership soccer players are all a bunch of overpaid primadonnas. It's the idiot fans who like to ruck. More or less the opposite way round in Rugby (I'm not suggesting the fans here are primadonnas btw).

I love going to the games over here. The atmospheres great and there's no aggro. Went to the Bledisloe Cup final last year. Great match.

    But.....

I reckon I might give the strips a go. S'cheaper than having the doctor stick a drill up my nose, which is my other option.

I wasn't worrying about soccer, I was talking about Rossi and co. It always looks funny at the press conferences, Rossi with his bandage. Maybe that's why he speaks funny. You'd think he was Italian or something.

For sports they definately make a difference...maybe not performance wise but it sure does make it easier to breath through your nose and your lungs don't have to work as hard to suck in a full breath........hell if Rossi uses them then it must work!!

For snoring I heard they are pretty good too. There was that doco on TV last year where they had some people try all the different snoring products on the market and the nasal strips rated very highly. Some soldiers I know use them in the field too so they don't give away their position at night (and get a kick every 10 mins by the sentry). Although I only reckon it would benefit light snorers..... wouldn't be too practical either going through one every night.

Hamish has recently started using them for snoring - they don't stop it completely, but the certainly do seem to help.

    Being frustrated is disagreeable.

But the real disasters in life begin when you get what you want.
