Sad but another case of natural selection.
No helmets and at that time of night probably loaded with alcohol :-(
Bloody idiots. Will not help the statistics.
It's unlikely that both their helmets came off as a result of the impact.
Riding at night with no helmet is absolute madness.
There will still however be other people greiving over this tragic and, very likely, avoidble loss.
Going for a quick probably drunken fling around the block in the middle of the night without any safety gear is just applied eugenics.
It is however tragic that these folk had to learn the lesson the hard way.
Just another leather clad Tinkerbell.
The Wanker on the Fucking Harley is going for a ride!
The roads down in Christchurch were wet last night and probably a bit foggy in patches too. Not good.

I'm livin' the dream.
You.
For riding a motorcycle. It makes you 26 times more likely to die in a crash than driving a car.
Wearing a helmet improves your odds, that's all. And you will still be around 16 times more likely to die.
Stop whining about Darwin and safety. Stop fantasising that helmets are magic .
Get a Volvo.
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.
Darwin
Whilst it ads to poor motorcycle statistics (more dead young fellas) ACC should be pleased that there is no expensive rehabilitation bill.
A law will be passed soon making it compulsary for motorcyclists to kill themselves outright should they have an accident.
You have been warned
One suspects that the non wearing of helmets may have been the least risky thing they were doing....
Excuse the pun - You have however hit the nail on the head!!!
The more safety gear you have, combined with observation skills and good practices, will prevent you from having an accident or greatly reduce the chance of injury in the unlikely event you are unable to avoid a sudden contact with an immovable object etc.
Plus 97% of stats are made up!!!
