Seems some people think they have a god given right to cross the center line whenever they feel like it. No concept of the possible concequences.
maybee I'm overeacting but that kinda attitude makes by blood boil.

What the police need to do is set up a big solid steel plate that is sealed with tarmac and fitted flush to the road surface. It will be operated by strong hydraulics on a remote controller - when they see a vehicle cutting a corner in a shocking and dangerous manner they can push a button and the piece of road springs up right in front of the offending vehicle removing them from the equation.

Unfortunately motorcycle ACC levies may dramatically increased after this .......

All these "good fast" drivers get a great set of corners to enjoy and they want to turn them into straight lines?? Maybe its not so much of a problem if you can see a LONG way ahead but if you have a fast mover coming the other way cutting through corners in the same way you are its going to end in a head on.

Am gonna go for a ride and have a look at where they took the shots from to see if this was one of those "blind" corners or not...

I don't care how much visibility there may be through that piece of road, somebody must have put those double yellows there for a reason. I think that most people who cut that corner would have been doing out of sheer lazyness, rather than any sort of advanced driving technique due to their expert skills.

Much of this is due to the "watering-down" effect that the placement of double-yellow lines in all sorts of batshit insane places that don't need them has had. TPTB have done this as a "traffic-calming" measure. Basically to slow traffic down for no good reason. As a result, people drive along these areas stuck behind Mable in her Mk2 Cortina at her lovely pace of 60km/h thinking "That's a sodding retarded place for double yellow lines - only a retard would put them there". And then this thinking persists at the next stupid set of these they see. And then the next set which is only marginally retarded. And then the next set which is fairly reasonably placed. And they're still thinking the same thoughts when they come to some lines that are there because of a honest-to-god dangerous spot.

And the rest of this is just because people (particularly the "mature" 30-50y/o ones, who certainly should know better) act like sodding idiots behind the wheel of any given vehicle in NZ.

Good point, sorta the 'boy who cried wolf' thing going on there. I guess the roads I do the most are between here and whangarei, where half the places with white lines should have double yellows. Perhaps they're not too worried about a few northlanders knocking each other off every now and then.

Death driving is not even worth the debate.... do something stupid don't expect to make the trip home... what is more worth while? Being late or not there at all... I sat and watched people die in hospital while my dad was sick, and not one of them was due to stupid driving ... why because they didn't make it home or to hospital ... to all those that made it and ended up in court due to stupidty I hope they throw away your car keys, and never let them drive again, or jail you for life.

I really hope that isn't the case, some part of the gorge there is fuck all space to spare (hence truckies have to go over the yellows) , a cheescutter removes not a lot, but is still a significant amount in such close quarters.

Wit regard to the op, wonder if the people saying they have the right to cross double yellows have considered that they may miss something coming towards them, better to err on the safe side, just like those fuckers who don't indicate cos they can see everyone around them, well they miss seeing bikers fucking heaps.
