I had heard during the week that DK was going to be racing in the vets.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/motorsp...otocross-glory

Interesting article on the USGP Vets:

In addition to hosting the best modern day motocross racers in the world, the U.S. Grand Prix at Glen Helen is bringing back legendary heroes from the past.

The third round of the FIM Veterans Cup series will be held in conjunction with the USGP in Southern California on May 29-30th.

Headlining the list or racing heroes that will be competing is former 125 SX champion Jeff "Chicken" Matiasevich.

Always a fan favorite and winner of the 1988 and 1989 AMA 125 SX titles, Chicken finished runner up to Jean-Michel Bayle's incredible sweep of the last 500cc USGP to be contested at Glen Helen in 1992.

"I was oh-for-three against JMB that day," jokes Jeff of the old three moto format for the GPs. "You could say I have some unfinished business to settle at Glen Helen."

After a successful Supercross and motocross career in the U.S., Matiasevich went on to win three consecutive Japanese National Motocross titles in 1995-97. More recently he has raced the U.S. Open and other events.

Joining the ageless Matiasevich at Glen Helen on May 30th will be a host of heroes, including former USGP and Motocross des Nations winner Chuck Sun; multi-time World Vet champ (and San Jose SX winner) Doug Dubach; former Honda and Suzuki factory test rider Rich Taylor, Monster Energy/Team Green Vet racer Matt Tedder; Arizona hotshoes Drey Dirks and Ed Foedish and Noleen/J6 racer Clark Jones.

In addition to the MX greats, off-road legends like Team Husqvarna's Ty Davis and KTM's Paul Krause are signed up to face the European "regulars" like defending champ Mats Nilsson from Sweden.

The Swede has been perfect in VMX competition this year, sweeping both motos at the Veterans Cup rounds in Italy and The Netherlands.

Former full-time GP racers Kurt Nicoll from Great Britain (who has been tearing it up in Supermoto competition the past couple years) and Kiwi legend Darryll King are coming out to show the world they still have the speed that made them threats to win every time they lined up.

Watch for King to give Mats Nilsson are run for his money considering he is the 30-time! New Zealand MX champ, 4-time Australian champ, ranked in the top five in World GP 6-times (including vice championships in 1997 and 1998) and the outright winner of the Belgian, French and German GP's in 1997.

    Information so far.........

NOTE: SPOILERS...............for Vets class race 1

    250 HEAT RACE:
Marvin Musquin easily won the 250 (MX2) heat race. Jeremy van Horebeek made a couple moves to get into second place, while Max Anstie was sizzling as he worked his way up to third. Americans Zach Osborne (6th), Vince Friese (13th), Dakota Tedder (18th), Michael Leib (19th) and Myles Tedder (20th) rounded out the top 20.

    450 HEAT RACE:
Mike Alessi won the 450 qualifying race and took the pole position for Sunday’s USGP. Ben Townley chased him home in Saturday’s 450 heat race. Two KTM’s rounded out the top four with Max Nagl and Tony Cairoli finishing third and fourth. Ryan Hughes, who has already retired from racing twice and is pushing 40, finished seventh in the 450 heat race in front of GP stars Clement Desalle, Xavier Boog, Anthony Boissiere (10th), Gareth Swanepoel, Josh Coppins, Kevin Stribos (14th), Tanek Leok and Sebastien Pourcel (16th). Grant Langston was 17th, Ricky Dietrich 22nd, Justin Soule 24th, Bobby Garrison 26th, Dennis Stapleton 27th, Kyle Phenix 31st, Jimmy Albertson 32nd and Kyle Chisholm 33rd (although Kyle was in the top five for most of the race).

    Great result for Townley, 3 KTM's in the top 4, 2 350's and a 450 pretty unreal.

    FIM VETERANS CUP MOTO ONE:
The Vet riders raced one moto on Saturday and will race their second moto on Sunday. In Saturday’s first moto, Doug Dubach (USA) and Darryll King (NZ) traded position back and forth as they lapped 20 of the 31 riders in the first moto (several Vet riders were excluded because they did not show up in parc ferme at the appointed time—although the FIM should have been more lenient since they changed the schedule constantly during the day because they waited for the famous Glen Helen wind to die down). The excluded riders will be allowed to start the second moto on Sunday.
Doug Dubach and Darryl King were the only Over-40 riders to consistently jump the triple step-up (most of the Vet elected to take a bailout level that was between the big jump...and some couldn’t make it to that level). Notable riders in the Veteran Cup included third place finisher Mats Nilsson (who could run the pace, but fell on the first lap and had to come from midpack), fourth placer Kurt Nicoll (who showed lots of speed, but a little ring rust), fifth place Ty Davis (giving Husqvarna a top five score), Sixth place Drey Dircks (the former Honda test rider is still a good racer), seventh went to Jet Ski legend Victor Sheldon who not only fought off the attentions of Jeff “Chicken” Matiasevich (9th), but moved his way past Terry Fowler (8th), Erwin Hendrickx (10th) and Pascal Bal (11th). The Vet race their second moto on Sunday and the Dubach/King/ Nilsson showdown looks good.
