If you want there to be but I think I've done my dash with the SBC. I've sold my XLR125 anyway. A SBC two day ride would be a lot more fun.

The 22/23 Jan is good for Wellington riders, as the 24 should be Wellington Anniversary day, so one less day off work for Wellington riders.

Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

Fun is all relative, right. Personally the only reason why I'd want to be cramped up on a tiny, gutless 125 for 1000km is for the challenge of getting it done in 24 hours. Never again!!!

I am heading up to Tauranga this weekend to pick up D's new Transalp... So we have the bikes, she has the skills, now I just have to convince her she wants to do the ride.

BTW I'm with TA regarding trying to get up the Carracktown track - I reckon it'd be... interesting. The direction the route went last time worked for me, but we were on a different timetable to the others.

Phew! 850 chilly km later the Transalp is safely in my garage. It's a 2001 with 34km on the clock, super tidy and a good service history. It had a Ventura pack rack and bag, which will be on Trademe from this week if anyone's interested. It came with hotgrips unfitted, so I spent an unpleasant couple of hours trying to get the fairings apart at my motel in Mt Maunganui, before saying "Sod it, I don't need hot grips". WRONG!!

Only dramas with it are the spare key doesn't disarm the immobiliser (anyone had this problem?) and indicators don't always work first go (dirty contact in the switch methinks). Totally stoked with the bike, and hope Mrs B. will be too (she's home in the old country at the moment).

    Cheers

Maungatapu access should be no problem, it's open for bikes now, if you can get around/under the gates or find the caretaker at home.

For the DB, we'd just have to co-ordinate unlocking of the gates to make it easy for everyone and especially bigger bikes.
    Cheers,

Just seen your post over on the Maunga Diaries thread. Good stuff and thanks for the investigations. This makes the northern route a much more tenible option.

Tidy looking unit. Aren't you supposed to fold up the tent before putting it on the back of the bike tho?

    SOUTH SOUTH SOUTH I say...
It's been North 3 times already and South only once. The South has some catching up to do !!

If it does go North I'd be interested in looking in to the possibility of a second two day group starting from Christchurch or Hamner.
