GSXR600 vs R6, CBR600 or ZX6R

In the next couple of months I'll be stepping up to my full license and I'm interested in a getting a relatively new (2003+) 600cc sportsbike. I've been keeping an eye on trademe and have noticed that the Suzukis generally seem quite a bit cheaper than the Yamahas, Hondas and Kawasakis. Am I missing something? Were they lower quality, worse performers, or maybe start falling apart after a few years?

Any insight would be useful, cheers.

I think you'll find the choice of your next bike is very much a matter of personal preference. You're just going to have to go and try them out for yourself.

just go ride them all and find 1 you like and buy it. Good times ahead test riding bikes I guess.

I test rode a gixxer 600 and a 750, a Daytona 675 and a ZX6. I bought the 750 Daytona too tippy and racey, ZX6 wanted to lie down on corners and felt very perched. Gixxer beautifully balanced and planted, very confidence inspiring.

Ride them all and buy the one you like - that's sort of what I did. I didn't try the R6 because they're a little taller, and the CBR seemed a little bland.

thanks for the words so far guys, but I think you've missed the point of my post. I didn't mean to ask which I should get, obviously this comes down to personal preference, I just want to know if there's a good reason why GSXRs seem to be so much cheaper than the others.

Because they "feel" cheaply made when you sit on them, and because there are one hundred and twenty eight billion million squillion of them on the roads. It's like buying a white Corolla.

That and they were quite a bit cheaper than the others when sold new, when Suzuki NZ were having their really cheap summer deals they were selling mostly Canadian spec bikes 2-3 grand cheaper than the other makes.

Still good bikes, just the finish was known to be a bit on the cheap side, mech they're sweet.

GSXR's are considered 'hooligans' bikes by a lot of riders and that in part lowers their appeal to more 'serious' riders, and this in turns lowers their resale. Like others have said ride them all, but most importantly if you're buying second hand observe the tyres. A 600cc sportsbike that 'wants to fall over' or is slow to steer has probably got out of shape rubber on it. From memory the GSXR600 of that age was very highly rated.

Buying a new bike is tricky, think about what you will be predominately using it for, test ride heaps and make your choice carefully. If you had to press me i'd say any of your choices would be good bike but I like Yamaha's and Kawasaki's so... What ever does it for you..

Test ride them all. Choose the one you "gel" with . You will know. Buy the best example you can afford. I love suzukis-there are no quality issues with them-perhaps the finish is not quite up with a Honda, but that is of no consequence. Whatever works for you.

Suzuki is Probally cheaper due to the fact that there are so many of them out there availlable. Suzuki NZ regually has a sale of new models at a cheap price.

Suzuki spares are in this Country, not like Yamaha and others, another good reason to buy Suzuki.

O, and another reason why Suzuki, I won the IOMTT in 2003 on suzuki, so know how to make them handle brilliantly on the roads.
