Well, its simple enough for me. I have 3 road legal motorcycles, and two cars that I don't bother to get rego for anymore. (My regos all ran out in October last year, when we were well aware of the proposed new fees, except.)
If I get a ticket I will pay it, Id prefer to do that than pay the bastards at ACC.
Lots of people at the Bikeoi said "I wont pay it", now they are just saying "waaa its expensive".
Is it working financially ?
So far, I have done 6000km on the Kawasaki including the Bert Monroe, when we rode around he entire South Is. I have done about 2000km on the BMW, and use the scooter every day for work. Neither car has done much mileage, they are post classic old girls who only get a run on a Sunday. In a few years they will be old enough for Classic rego, at which time I will rego them.
8 Months rego-less and fine-less.
Maybe my luck will change. Maybe the fine will go up. Maybe the police will get better technology to catch me. Then I might review things. But I'm a quiet rider, I don't attract attention to myself, and the two checkpoints I have seen rego less have been easily evaded.
Actually, in a perverse sort of way, I'm quite enjoying rocking past police while unregistered. I'll enjoy stopping a lot less I expect.
But even if I do decide to pay rego at some stage in the future, I will just reduce the size of my vehicle fleet to lower costs. This wont help ACC at all as they cover people, not vehicles. Their people risk will remain unchanged, its only the money they collect that will go down.
Savings :
Cars 2 @ $ 280 = $ 560
Scooter = $ 394
Bikes 2 @ $ 517 = $1034
TOTAL = $1988 per year.
I can afford the rego, its an issue of principle for me.
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.
