Over the weekend of the 4km/h tolerance shambles I spent a few minutes trying to keep within the tolerance.
It was surprisingly easy. I watched the speedo until I was travelling at 100 then merely glanced at it every 20 seconds or so.
Oddly, I was fairly accurate, and it was easy to do.
I didn't have to keep my eyes off the road much at all, as all the KB posters have claimed.
Still, maybe I'll add that to the list of riding skills I have; being able to perceive and monitor speed without having to constantly focus on the speedo.
Spooky really, don't speed and you don't get speeding tickets. You don't need cash, credit cards or even a cheque book. No free steak knives though.
So there.

. Now, because the easiest & cheapest way to keep bad drivers from crashing on a corner is a reduced speed limit I will probably be leaving or joining SH1 at the Swinging Cow. The "safer" SH1 gets the longer it takes me to get to Auckland. If the powers that be refuse to educate road users properly & continue to choke perfectly good highways I'm going to be riding gravel roads in a few years. Gonna need a tent & a billy can when I head south.
Don't solve the problem, just keep it at arms length. Grrrrr.
