And I'd wager (and remember I a sportsbike fanatic) that most Harley riders are aware of their machines capabilities, and more importantly their own. Whereas us sportsbike riders who like to blast the twisties are quite often racing ourselves off the road.

I agree entirely with the second part but unfortunately I've seen too many Harley primary cases scrapped down to the point where they're millimetres away from spewing oil over the rear wheel to fully agree with the first part.

Arhhhhhhhhhhh, no, the legend dies...where was the ticket for the revenue gathering, the infringement of the students rights, never mind the breach of his rights under CYF Act, and he was wished a good day as well!

Might as well pack up KB, there is nothing more to discuss!

skippa1, even those in fast cars have to use their brakes at times, the road from Murc's to Nelson is a good road for a bike, yes you have the design factor right for most cruisers, in the 'right hands' they can still travel and corner within their limits quite well hence the reason they are purchased, not every motorcyclist wants a bike capable of 300kph that at speed most that own them have trouble staying on unless as you say about Harleys it is a straight line..

Back to the thread, the new's media always has the first say leading most persons into believing the wrong information and tend to highlight only what they want to make more new's out of, commonly called mileage....Hence "motorcyclist get the bash" this then leads the cops getting a 'bash' for doing their job, read between the lines stay within the law, yes the law is an ASS made by those who live in a world removed from actual reality

Oh I can't stop laughing about that one....hell so many scooter riders have been killed on the roads around Nelson...yes bust all those naughty school boys with no "L" plates. Police should be out floating around the back roads etc on a saturday and a Sunday...

As much as it is a tragedy to be killed on the road, when your number is up, it's up, and there's fuck all you can do about. Make the most of the time you have got, strive for happiness and contentment. Use your life wisely.

I spoke with a fella today who is in a senior traffic management position in the Nelson Police .

Some comments were that the recent stats involved several people (but not all) who were either not licenced, or who were riding a machine that did not fit with their licence held.

The campaign does not start until 1st July.

The campaign runs for 100 days.. when another campaign will take over.. eg: young drivers.. after 100 days that will be taken over by another target focus group.. so this is not just a blitz against bikers. it will be ongoing. Their focus it to get dangerous vehicles/riders/drivers off the road.

That title was put on the campaign by the media, not the Police. They will not be preaching to motorcyclists.

This is not an exercise intended towards giving tickets.. however if a bike is pulled up & has not wof/rego/licence then people can likely expect a ticket.. just as they could on any other given day of the year! & in/on any vehicle.

Several Police here ride motorcycles themselves. They are aware that motorcyclists from out of town are also represented in the stats & that this is not quite the ideal time of year to hold this campaign, however it has to start somewhere.

The stops will be set up so that the same bikers commuting to & from work will not be stopped at the same time & same place etc every day.. rather they will be focusing on highways 6 & 60, which are 2 of our main hotspot areas.

I also met with Krista at TDC today, & again as I have already mentioned in previous posts, there are several things on the go in regards to raising the awareness of motorcyclists (to car drivers) , raising motorcyclists knowledge & skills, & a few other things. We are very focused on our riding community & their safety.

I have also been asked by a member of MNZ to take him through his bike licence process.. his journey will then be blogged on the ACC Ride Forever website!!

    stay tuned

If it was Inspector Hugh Flower you met with, he is an old time MoT traffic man, very astute and clever.

He will run a very good campaign and get results.

All the best to you and all the team down there.

Good call.....cant disagree. We do push it harder and faster (the bike) ........I have seen some hideous moments when following Harleys into corners and they havent scrubbed off enough speed, in fact their skill level in retrieving themselves has been admirable. Me.......I like having 320mm discs, sticky high tech tyres and carefully engineered and track tested handling charactiristics so when I get it wrong, I have some chance....

Poorly thought out answer. What have cars got to do with it. I didnt say that everyone wanted a 300kmh bike. I just made the observation, as did the police in the Nelson Mail not long ago, that the bulk of motorcycle accidents represented are on"large cruisers and Harley Davidsons". In short....you just want an argument. Not getting one from me....Im secure in my position. Are you?

    Thanks for your great efforts.

BRONZ could learn a lot from you about improving motorcycling by working with the powers that be rather than against them.

Don't bother to re read my post to find the answer you don't want to find it anyway, and yes I am really secure in my position..Nope, not one ounce of argument intended at all, at the end of the day I could not careless what others do as long as it does not effect my life..

It doesn't really matter what you're riding, if you're at the limit of the bike or your ability then you're at the limit, it's probably just going to be faster on a sports bike than a cruiser. It doesn't mean you're any safer, just going faster when it happens.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

It doesnt matter what you are riding??? WTF? oh better let all those guys at Ducati and Aprillia know that they are wasting time putting Brembo and Ohlins stuff on their bikes, and that those aluminium frames designed and tested on computers are waste of time too...as any mig welded steel frame and hardtails on HDs are as good for cornering.
