Too find out your demerits call the 0800 number in the first post. Well worth knowing if you know you have some.

I didn't realise any GDL breaches carried demerits until an amendment last year.

Getting all my "L plate" points back in august...but not sure how that works once the disqualification is "in motion"...

either way going to europe for couple of months in aug-sep so will probably "hand myself in" since i wont need licence then, so i have clean slate for summer
Yeah, you'll still have to 'serve' the suspension no matter how long you evade them.

Not answering the door seems to work pretty well...

Cancellation and reinstatement of demerit points

    • (1) When 2 years have elapsed since the commission of an offence in respect of which demerit points were recorded, the entry of the points made in respect of that offence ceases to have effect in relation to the person who committed that offence; but if demerit points were recorded in respect of 2 or more offences committed by that person, the entry ceases to have effect when 2 years have elapsed since the commission of the most recent of those offences
While you're correct in the quote that's not how it actually works in reality. I'm not sure why. I think I knew once, but I've forgotten. I think it was something to do with the term 'entry' used.

Yep breaches of licence condition always did...well at least L plates did.

    .
That kind of sucks but i suspected thats how it works..., i guess i will pop over to court and pick up a form for limited licence and then hand myself in once i have it... just so i have something to drive with before going overseas

BTW not answering door works the treat..what a lame system realy, they probably passed it back to police so next licence check means also suspension....

It's a horrible feeling being so close to the limit. Every time a popo pulls you over your as nervous as hell, and hoping like heck he don't ping you for anything.......

I know that feeling well. I was sitting on 100 points for a while ... very freaky ... then one dropped off and I was down to 75 ... so I thought I could afford one more ticket ... but then I got stung on the Napier-Taupo Road in April at 136 ks ... 50 demerit points ... 50 !!!! ... so now I'm walking until September ... 125 points inside 24 months ...

But worse ... I also got stung later in April (before LTSA caught up with me) at 109 klicks heading for Whakatane around the Rotorua Lakes in an 80 klick zone ... 35 points ... those points don't drop off with my suspension ... so I won't be starting from zero when I get my licence back ... I'll still have 35 demerits ...

    I think I'll invest in a radar detector !!!!

That's only if suspended by the court. In the case of a demerit suspension, you can apply immediately.

cheers, i will look into it then... i work various hours even nights so there is no public transport so should qualify due to potential "hardship"

In fact, even some court imposed suspensions don't carry the 28-day clause.

I *think* its for losses 6 months or greater? (28 days that is). Miloking, the hardship is to others, not yourself (its a punishment after all). I believe I got one of the most lenient LL, 6 days a week, 9am. To midnight, greater auckland, but it was a hard slog. There is a thread somewhere with details.

It's always seemed odd to me that we pay for separate licences, but when it comes to tickets, the demerits get all added together regardless of what you're on.
eg. you could potentially lose your licence for not displaying an L plate on your motorbike (if you get enough of them), but that then means your not allowed to drive a car even if you have never had a ticket ever in a car.
Shaken, not stirred in the shakey city!
