3.6 kg is quite heavy for a helmet. And will it not get very hot in sunny weather?

yes but imagine headbutting someone with it, fix numerous problems that way. Nah, tis reflective so wont absorb any sunlight at all. Though to wear it you may have to jump in the machine and get your ear trimmed to fit.

unsure, but it probly would have been running slower for the demo as there was no coolant

That is seriously impressive, shows just how far technology has come.

I do wonder what happens to all the metal that is carved away - do they melt it down and recycle it, or toss it? Either way, an astonishing piece of machinery.

they recycle it, but cos it's mixed with cutting lubricant they don't pay fuck all for the swarf, also a 60L container only holds bout 20kgs worth. And yeh its amazing what the CNC machinery can do, they now have 'dark' factories who's only occupants are CNC machinery and robot etc to feed them stock, just pump out the parts 24/7.

There's a link down near the bottom of the comments on this vid to a youTube of a 5 axis doing a V8 engine block. I think the helmet is a lot more impressive, the V8 is straight lines and holes compared to the contours of the helmet. Both way fucking cool though

I used to operate 3D laser scan equipment. By scanning an object, cleaning and reformatting the data a CNC machine can then duplicate the scanned object - from a bolt to a yacht hull. Real cool technology to be involved with
