My rego is due 10th July so I thought that I wuld be smart and go an renew my rego before 1st July so that I did not incur the extra cost for at least another 6 months. Turns out that because my rego is due after 1st July I automatically had to pay the extra. Bastards!!!
EDIT - I just noticed that this has already been discussed a million times on here. Maybe I should spend some more time on KB

um, people have been saying thats what would happen and to avoid it get a change of rego date due thing for ages on here. Though I think that loophole has been closed, mine was due bout a month ago so I didn't need to bother with any extra forms.

It has been discussed time and time again on this forum that if your registration lapses AFTER 1 Jul then you need to pay at the new rates.
How much was the new fee by the way?
