You guys should get a real bike like a lambretta with a ts1 no dampers no disc brake 10'' wheels and tell me 160 isnt too fast :S

OK, as we all know anything over 100km/h is illegal, whatever ....its the inappropriate speed and the inexperience at speed that gets people into trouble. Being aware whats around you, whats ahead of you, what may be coming the other way etc. Yeah, I do over 200km/h from time to time, err mainly to catch upbut just ride at what youre comfortable with, if you want to cruise and corner at 120 and nail it to 200 on the straights, so what, as opposed to doing 160 everywhere. Just be careful when catching up thats all, if the rider ahead brakes from his 160 and youre doing 200, try and read whats going on ahead and be prepared to hit the picks real hard. Practice braking hard from 200km/h if need be, you'll find out it takes alot longer than you might think. Nothing worse than wiping your mates out by not paying attention

nsrpaul... please do not ride with your head in your arse.
1. Its just not safe Paul!
2. Not comfortable (of course I do not speak from experience therefore I am only imagining)
3. HIGHLY unhygienic
best regards!

I have long come to the opinion that there are two kinds of bikers here.
The ones that take themselves 'too' seriously and those that don't.
The newbie posters you'll learn.
Great entertainment guys.

I gota confess i do speed sometimes... there i said it
only if the road is clear and can see far ahead (and sideways too)
...be careful with unfenced vegetation![]()
usualy try to enjoy the ride not the speed![]()
not only is riding with your head up your arse unhygenic it tends to get you killed

not against all speeding ,(I still go fast round corners but do limit my top speed)just stupid big speeds and people having the ilusion that they can be safe at 200 , as said in an ealier post on this thread try braking hard from 200 , most will be suprised how long it takes to stop , then factor in reaction timeOriginally Posted by 250learna

Yes I have the same problem on my XJR1300 can't swap it from lock to lock fast enough to do true figure eights, But I can on my WR450.Originally Posted by Ixion

Yes I like to ride fast on the road, but I also like to ride in a smooth and following manner, and hardly ever use my breaks on the road, but on the track it a different matter, hard and fast all the way.
I say drop the speed limit, Open road should be open road no limits, And soon we will have zero unemployment and a quarter on the number of idiots on the road.

You make some good points. But I would love to see what happens when you get a bike that can effortlessly do 200k, rather than shreiking like a banshee and buzzing like a turbocharged viabrator. Take a ride on a 600+ and see how long you can resist it.
How far south of Nelson have you ridden? Sure, doing 200k anywhere north of the Kohatu pub would be reckless. But there are plenty of roads in our wee country that have excellent surfaces, are well marked/ signposted and have almost no traffic, cross roads or driveways.
There are even more roads where you can have an absolute ball without breaking the speed limit, but in reality you are putting yourself and others at greater risk than by doing 200k on the affore mentioned deserted roads. Think about it, if you're cranked over doing 95k around a 40k corner and you fall, your bike is going to hit something What if it's an on coming car? Just because you're below the limit doesn't mean that you aren't taking a risk.
