Not me mate, I'm not affected so couldn't be arsed. I was just offering something up to stop other people simply giving away their pride and joy.

Everyone selling a bike (trademe or not) please be prepared to identify these perps. vehicle, distinguishing features etc.
Even have a mate on a bike down the road to follow your bike (or the car) when they take off. Most people have cop mates, im sure they wouldnt mind being with you (off duty or plain clothes) when these guys 'test ride'.

watever we do, we needa to catch these people. photocopy their drivers licence, ive had it done to me and i completely understood.

FFS can't some IT geeza trace the IP address of this moron, he's gotta log in to Trade Me and it should be registered. I fucking hate thieves.

We should start up our kiwibiker gang, like a mafia. Except we take protection money in finding and catching thieves. Once we find them we tie them up and then the victim can have a few "moments" with them. Then we tatoo on his forehead/face "BEAWARE: I am scum, I steal from other people". We'll only need some hard big guys, lota chain and someone with a tatoo machine...

Contact your phone provider now! Might get lucky with a fixed number that you can get an address from

Waste of time, as tax payers we'll end up paying to have it removed. Carve 'THIEF' into every available piece of skin on his body with a knife, can't skin graft it all.

Been watching too much CSI? You can't "TRACE AN IP ADDRESS". Anyone with a trademe account can see seller details (ph#). All they gotta do is pick up a new Vodafone or 2 degrees or telecom sim, slap it into a phone and make the calls. When I was selling my Z750 at the beginning of the year, I was getting 1000+ hits on the auction. You want to trace every IP? Good luck getting the address/contact details of place/person where the IP is assigned to from the ISP without any concrete proof.

By the frequency of these thefts, these guys seem pretty organised. I wouldn't be surprised they're reading this very thread right now and sitting back and having some laughs.

I can't believe the gullibility of some of you folk. I know its good to be trusting and all, but does it feel good to be trusting while some fucker rides away on your pride and joy? Why take the risk? Serious buyers always bring cash.

Lol, but what if I wrote an GUI interface in VB? I'm not an idiot :/

Trying to get an address from a caller is entirely possible if they rung from a landline, worth a shot at least.

Clearly you can't just 'TRACE' an IP. Although email headers would possibly have the IP of the sender which you could easily whois to check if it was from a NZ ISP. From that, I'm sure you could likely get an address with the help of the police. I don't know how liberal the ISP's are about handing out that kind of info, although I'd hope pretty strict.

If they've been successful with 3, there must be others where they have not been successful. Eg. they will only take the ones with poor security measures (did not hold licence, did not take a photo etc). So maybe some of you guys who are currently selling up in Auckland that did take a photo or licence etc can match the description with someone who took a test ride of your bike but didn't buy. ie. skinny white guy & a mate.
Shaken, not stirred in the shakey city!

Why doesn't someone up that way advertise their 1000cc sport bike really cheaply. Say it's an urgent sale etc...and hopefully our 'mate' will call. Arrange a time, and have ya mates at your place. If it's him that turns up...smash his and his mates face in.

Not sure what interactions victims have had with the Police in Auckland?

If someone here is willing to compile a list of the bikes, owners and details of the guy(s) that have been offending I'm prepared to do some leg work (outside of my job)but legally)), including with the Trust and Confidence Manager at Tradme...

In Auckland there are a number of Police Areas, and no flag may have been raised (yet) to identify the level, type and nature of offending.

PM me if anyone is keen.

Hey the Hilux was Light Silver, chrome bull bars, 20" or there abouts MAX wheels, no canopy, broken back right passenger window (tapped up with plastic etc). Most unusal light coloured leather interior Hilux badge was missing from the right side also.... this was a NICE truck. I had reported what I thought was the plate numbers to the cops, but they diddnt match.

This dude had no facial hair, standard hair cut, however he did have a lump on his cheek.
