Passed the 6R

Well, that was a doddle. I've clocked up about 11,000km on my L, so I guess if I couldn't pass it, something's wrong. The tester had me worried though... all business, no friendly conversation whatsoever. When we got back, he told me I had passed, gave me the temp licence, and said goodbye. No feedback at all.

Hardest part of the test? Finding a way to mount my L plate I guess I can go over 70kph now. Oh, what a brave new world

I so far done 4500k's since the midde of march, by Sept should be no reason not to pass, are you looking at bigger bikes yet? or will you hold on to yours for awhile ?

I'm going to stick to the law and stay on a 250 until I get my full. The Hyosung serves its purpose well enough. The moment I get my 6F I intend to quadruple the number of cc's though

Can't imagine you'll have any problems if you're getting out and riding that much. It's just a bunch of intersections really. Indicate properly, make dramatic motions with your head to show you're checking your mirrors, and you're good. I was given the u-turn in a street wide enough to turn the titanic.

Glad my avatar actually helped someone too. I see so many riders crossing up and leaning the bike under them. Makes you feel nice and secure, but asks a lot more of the bike than is needed to get round a corner.

i ask as i am about to go do my basic handling, but hate the fact il have to 'have' an L plate displayed

Why anyone would stress about doing a Restricted test, I don't know, for they sure are a doddle. But well done, anyway. Ready for more intensive shit now?

The test was the first time I've ever had the plate on. I do a fair bit of travel on the open road, and advertising the fact I'm going over 70kph seemed a silly idea. Plus I found (in a car) that it makes people behind you impatient even when you're going at a reasonable speed. Evaluate the risk and whether you're willing to pay the fine if you happen to get caught. But ride sensibly and your chances of getting snapped are pretty low, I reckon.

The only reason I was concerned was the chances of getting a particularly retentive tester. But yeah, the test is pretty straightforward. BHS was harder

Definitely looking forward to stretching the skill set further.

As for the L plate, right now (still on my first 350kms) I wish mine was larger sometimes, like with impatient assholes tailgating me at 80ish.

Yeah, there are no shortage of assholes on the road. In a car it's no biggie, but having some guy in an SUV tailgating your bike is not a pleasant experience in any case. Brake checking isn't particularly advisable either.

Yeah, I needed one of those yesterday. Not a cage. Not an SUV. It was a twin-trailer logging truck! I was on SH2 on a winding section with solid double yellows for miles doing about 85 (too fast for my plate, but not fast enough for impatient fuckers, catch 22) when this logging rig gets bigger and bigger and bigger in my mirrors till it felt like the fucker was about a car length behind and still closing.

What do you do? There's no way - with only 350kms under my belt, at 85 on a winding highway - that I'm going to take my hand of the bars and point at my L plate! I dabbed the brake a couple of times (BTW: why is this not a good idea?) but no joy, so I pulled over (about two feet of tarmac between me and the grass verge) and let the bugger pass.
