Have ridden the Six a few times, each way. Normally on an R1200RT-P, but once on an R1150GS.

FYI, the southbound lane is a shit of a ride. It looks like they dug a ditch down the whole length from Maori Jacks Point to Kingston to install fibre optics, coz they did a shitty job of patching up after themselves. The patch runs the length, and frequently is on the best line into or out of a corner.

Actually, it probably isn't as bad as I recall, but it sharpens the mind, seeing a crap surface on the exit to a swift sweeper.

On balance, not a road to be missed. Just watch the surface. Last time I did it was southbound in thick fog, two-up. Still a cool ride, but fatiguing through having to focus so much on the road surface.

Can I interest you in a bike with suitable rear suspension travel?

    Best touring I've seen.

We stayed the Night before at the Manapouri Lakeview Motor Inn. Real good casual set up owned by a TDM900 rider.
    BD biker friendly recommended.
