Dark tint screen vs radar detector

Hey all just got this do up bike and want to go to a double bubble screen?

Also want to fit my Escort X50 to it. I was thinking a really dark screen might restrict the sensitivity of the Radar detector.



So maybe go for the light tint although I like the dark??

Any of you Radar aficionados got a recommendation??

Umm it wont affect radar but laser it might, but then if you have been locked on with the laser chances are by the time you are aware its too late anyhow.

I have heard the dark tint will cock things up but a light tint won't ??

One of the guys I ride with has his X50 in a tank bag and it still seems to work ok.

Dunno about your escort but put it this way...I have an Bel STI and I actually run it sitting behind the headlights. It's velcroed to the flat piece on the side of cockpit area. I've only been out on the bike once since having it on there and it worked fine. I also have a dark smoke DB and it wouldn't worry me putting it in behind it (and my screen is DARK). Plastics have little effect on radar. Metal is another story.

I know a few riders that have their's mounted behind dark screens and they don't have problems.

Get the dark...they look better

As far as I know, regular radar signals will not be affected by a coloured screen since they are not in the visible light spectrum and will pass through any coloured plasticy/perspexy type screen.

Laser, as already mentioned, may well be affected.

I have no idea how radar/ laser detectors work but.... Our local incognito speed camera van ( a silver merc ) has very tinted windows, you can only see the camera when you are a few feet away. The glass in the van will be a lot thicker than your screen, I guess it should work both ways.

And why should it be?

radar signal are not at all affected by the colour of something, and laser... why should laser beam hits "exactly" your tinted visor only? if it hits the fairing? and what the effect of a tinted visor have to be, stated that usually they use infrared lasers and plexyglass or glass are completely opaque to infrareds?

you could have a chance only travelling with a full height mirror in front of your bike...

ah the reason why I asked, I knew I'd read it somewhere and it is this detector not the last one.

I finally found the manual and it says:

"Mount Passport away form solid objects and heavily tinted areas that might obstruct the antenna or laser lens!

Damn I wanted the dark bubble?????
