"Howdy, why's your Ducati got Suzuki on the tank?"

Was approached by a bandanna wearing fella at a gas station today and asked above question,i replied "your either American (pretty obvious he was) or just plain stupid"A bit of laughter later he introduced himself and his wife, indeed they were American and having the time of there lives doing the campervan thing round NZ,a long time Harley rider back home and thought that all Jap "sporty"(as he called them) bikes were 4 cylinders. He said that he heard me pull into the garage took a look and remarked to his wife "clever guys Kiwis this guys put a Ducati motor into that Suzuki"I told him i had long since done the Ducati thing and the only one likely to ever grace my garage again would be a Bevel drive,he looked at me blankly so i just left it at that.Lovely people and i could have listened to that accent all day.

You should have told him all modern Ducatis are manufactured by Suzuki, and that they simply don't bother with re-branding them in NZ as we are so arse backwards no one important would ever notice, But Jesus fuck there would be hell to pay if the purists ever found out.

(Someone else posted a similar comment in the last few months - Americans thinking bikes were either HD or Ducati. Weird.)

Someone once said to me, "There's any number of motorcycle manufacturers in the world, but only two true brands. Harley-Davidson and Ducati."

There's quite a bit of truth to that. Talk to someone who knows NOTHING about bikes and they'll invariably ask if you ride a Harley first and when you reply "No, I'm more into sports bikes" they'll hit you with the "Wow those Ducatis are beautifull". Tried it myself at a few parties, awesome entertainment.

The size of one's world is not determined by how big it is...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
