I didn't used to skimp on that shit, but now I have $175 less in the bike budget per year, now I can't afford getting the suspension upgraded (well I couldn't if I hadn't already bought the bits, just making a point you see).

Also, would you rather I drive round in a poorly maintained van?

Those people who can't afford to ride bikes, are going to have to stop, or ride them less in the case of those who're finding another $3 a week too much of a stretch. They're (I'm still talking about the bikes mentioned in the first post here) toys, and not ones that can be run on a tight budget.

But we can't pay rego on an as you can afford it basis. Generally, 3 months is the minimum amount one can get, and along with other price rises that is maybe the straw etc

If it were unfair or was theft, then sure it'd be something to get excited about. But given that bikers have more vicious accidents requiring greater resources to fix them back up, it's not. There are a lot of stats bandied about, but who would be foolish to believe them. Personally, I can only look to my own contact with A&E nurses, and take into consideration what they tell me about what they actually see. I totally expect the government to skew the data their way, and I totally expect BRONZ et all to do the same.

Times are tough man, the world is economically disappearing up it's own arse. If I can spend another $3 a week to make sure other riders (cause let's face it, I have medical and surgical insurance anyway, so I could in general give two shits what happens to the peasents using the public health system) are looked after should they arse off, then that's money well spent.

Yeah yeah, I know that's a bit socialist, but some of those less fortunate people are known to me and I'd like to see them looked after to some sort of reasonable standard.

I don't disagree - but it gets a little tiresome when you see the same person needing repairs time and time again.

I'm picking that they're reasonably rare though... motorcycling can be a harsh mistress, those that continually put themselves at risk either die, or get sick of spending time in orthopedics. Although admittedly I do know people like you describe. In their favour, getting older has sorted them out for the most part.
