One of my regular customers gave me the above quote. An' 'e's right. As I found out this morning.
Heading south from the Tron, through Rukahia settlement (80Km zone). Get to the 100k zone and let the neddies out of their restraints a little. Round the corner and there in front is a tall white van turning right across my path. There's a line up of traffic waiting behind him for him to get out of their way. (The road's a bit narrow just there.). No drama so far - I just pull back a bit and line up to go round behind the van. BUT. As he turns, a large tandem trailer is revealed attached to the back of 'is van. And, needless to say, he's just creeping across the road from a standing start. By now I'm pretty close - a bit too close in fact, so have to put the braking practice into effect. Tell ya what, that split second between reaching for the brake lever and pedal and actually getting the brakes on, is a bloody long time...
Anyhoo, all well enough in the end, apart from a jolt of adrenalin behind the knees and a little sphincter strengthening exercise...But it did remind me of the above quote.
Moral of the story?
Never assume nuffin'
