    Talking Woooohoooooo

Yay i passed my 6R today took all of 8 minutes went around the block a few times.

    2 x give way signs
    1 x roundabout
1 x u turn basic 50/60kmh speeds around Manaukau. No motoray to my surprise.

I supposidly gave the tester hope that if all his tests went this smooth he might not grey so fast........

GUys all in all it as easy. keep good road positioning and don't tail gate. Other than that ride normally and keep your rubberside down

Just a quick question for clarification...

When doing the u-turn on the test, are you expected to signal left, pull in, stop, and then signal right, and do the turn?

Or, are you expected to signal left, pull in without stopping and then signal right and make the turn?

Neither is a problem, but I'd prefer to know before going in...

    Cheers.

The tester will (in my case anyways) give you specific instructions. The lady that tested me was like....please pull over to the left... stop... go directly into a U turn....go directly into a right turn...stop. etc.

My advise is follow the road rules to the letter, turn the ear piece volume up louder than really required to be on the safe side, be prepared for U turns in tight roads and do them without putting your feet down, and include your tester and any people behind you as a hazard if your asked. Good luck everyone, its pretty straight forward and easy once you get over the nerves

Definitely signal left, pull over, stop.
Check everything for at least 3 seconds.
Then signal Right, check everything for 3 seconds again while stationary.
While you are still making sure it's clear, perform the U-turn, steady and slow.
    Easy peasy.
Safety is always your best bet!

When I did my u-turn I indicated left, pulled in but at a 45degree angle to the kerb. Indicated right, checked both ways and did u-turn. No worries.

    6R test Whangarei

I passed my restricted license test this morning, yay!

Here's what we did. Starting from VTNZ on Port Rd:
    R) turn on to Port Rd
Stop behind some parked cars near the Warehouse, then moved off again straight away
    R) turn at roundabout onto Okara Drive
Straight through roundabout on to Reyburn St
    L) onto Robert St
    L) onto Walton St
2nd exit at big roundabout on to Tarewa Rd
    L) onto Otaika Rd
    L) turn on to road behind Otaika shops - was then instructed to R) turn into carpark and come right back around to where examiner was waiting on the road just before turn off to carpark. I'm guessing this was testing U turn as it was fairly tight turning, and she didn't specifically ask me to do a U turn at any other stage of the test
    L) onto Mount Pleasant Rd
    R) onto Arcus St, then right to main intersection with SH1
    L) turn onto SH1
Straight through lights heading out of town in 80kph zone
    R) into sports ground at Blue Goose, turned around in the carpark, then L) back onto SH1 towards town
    R) at lights on to Rewarewa / Kioreroa Rd
    L) onto Port Rd, R) to keep on Port Rd, then back to VTNZ.

Took about 20 mins all up, for the most part it was just riding around except for when the examiner made me pull over & start off again, and tight turning into carpark at Otaika shops. Every kind of intersection was covered more than once - give way, stop, lights, roundabouts etc. She was following in a car and she had her lights on which helped when checking to make sure she was still behind me, instructions were nice and clear and the headset wasn't too uncomfortable.

This is a really good thread, just follow the advice from everyone and you'll be sweet!

Took my R a few weeks ago. Was kinda worried, because I had the same guy who failed me on my 1R
But nothing to be worried about, it was just a quick little pootle in and around the westgate area, and up redhills road for the high speed area. (which was only 80kph )

The only problem I had was the frustration at keeping to 30kph in a roadworks area that was absent of any actual roadworks.

    Nice and easy.

Finally got around to doing my 6R test today (after a full year on L, lol) - took about 20 mins just up some back streets at Mt Maunganui and back over to Hewletts Rd.

Didn't have any trouble with the headset - and I dodged the bullet when I rolled through an orange light and the tester didn't. I probably could have stopped...bad habit.

All was fine and well, only had to do one u-turn and the rest was piss easy.

The tester left a few mins before me to go home for the day - I forgot about this and went about my way filtering through the traffic all the way from the flyover to Bayfair - I wonder what he thought about this as I passed him.

Passed my 6R today! Was pretty chilled really.

Only had to do one U-turn, and one merge into traffic. I guess since there are no 100km zones close, he didn't worry about it.
Found the headset comfortable enough, although I did get it turned up 2 clicks from standard. Wasn't a problem at max 60k's, may have been at a higher speed.
Made a couple of mistakes from being nervous I guess, but they weren't a problem at all.
I exaggerated my head movements the whole time, and the only thing the testing officer said to me at the end was "You're doing the searching thing really well".

passed 6R on friday, did the test in hamilton at 5X roads AA had intercoms that were easy to follow, the instructor said at the start "just don't crash and you should be fine" followed the road code and passed. The test itself was just a 5 minute ride, went around a round about and came back. A few give way signs, 1 stop sign, all 50km/h except one short burst at 80km/h.

Did my test at takanini vtnz , got out there early , as i always do for tests , tester turned up , checked licence an had a very quick look at bike , didnt make me show him anything worked , rode round a few 50 k streets , told me to do a u turn , but i couldnt hear him so i pulled over , got to a 70 k bit of road that looked pretty industrial , being early i was only doing 50 k (weary of trucks/delivery drivers) , got back to vtnz , passed , but he put in the notes to applicant "drive to spped , take gaps" personally , considering he was in a car , he shouldnt be telling bikers to ride faster or pull out at busy intersections , lol

If it is raining, don't let it worry you. Just ride your ride and you'll be fine.

    Best of luck
