I still have have a crusty 25 year old Bell Tour Star II which isn't even fit for indoor karting, ha ha.

My first pair of mx boots were Vendraminis too, they are gone but I still have my pair of Alpine Star Roger de Costers, the ones with the metal kickplate on the shins.

    The Adventure Motorcyclist of 1979

Anyone had something motorcycly from that era they can still remember?
    Even better any pics
Here is what the "adventure motorcyclist" of November 1979 is wearing and riding.
College jersey (finished 7th form in 1978), worn jeans, buckle up leather boots, FFM full face hemet with home painted Union Jack colour scheme. If it had been raining I would have donned a yellow two piece (MOW or Post Office style) plastic rain suit. A very thin and worn leather "bomber"jacket was also available for major road tours (from Kapiti Coast to Manfeild for the Six Hour for example ). I would have had a pair of gloves - never rode without them, they were just off for the picture.
The bike, a 1975 Triumph "Adventurer", second owner and bought for $875. A nine litre polished alloy tank perhaps not the best choice in an era of weekend closing for petrol stations.

    Michael
and the Triumph would have trounced the Yamaha....... on that surface

That must have put a fairly serious dampener on weekend touring. Can't even begin to imagine how much of a pain in the arse that would be. I was just learning how to suck my thumb about then

Ah yes - the arse-puckering sound of the tank being slurped dry followed by a cough and a dead engine - then a long push home. I remember it well.

The buggers shut the gassies at about 7 at night too - it was a long time between drinks in them days.

Surprisingly enough, that doesn't look out of place. A pic of you and the fullah riding the other CT with his tweed coat would be good.

Awesome looking bike your riding too, looks just the shiz

If anyone wants to look really cool on their next adventure / classic / pub outing then you should view my trade me auction for some mint Belstaff waxed gear

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=303335739

These are very "on any sunday" Just like Malcom and Steve's

If anyone has a Belstaff trialmaster or barbour international jacket in medium size, or pants, give us a PM as I'm looking to go a bit retro...

As for the Dayglo - wear em! Bloody sweet as!

I should own up to being a vintage MX racer as well as an ADV rider
