    RG50?

Hey all. Just wondering what the general opinion of the RG50 is? I see that there are a few people who have them around the site. Thinking maybe it could be a good commuter for me if I could get one cheap enough.

    This one in perticular:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/a...0&key=14760137

Anything in perticular I should look at if I go check it out? What about things like tyre cost ect?

Thanks for any help you can be

I know its not going to be (...gee fast isn't quite the word is it ) but what kind of top speed could a light guy expect without screwing it?

Would have to be the best RG50 in the country, registered as a moped, means you dont need a licence, bonus!! They are a cool little bike, most have found there way to become bucket racers by now....

I have a 93 rg50 which is great fun. great little bikes. A little fiddling and they can do 100kmph (if you draft like crazy and keep it on the boil). That would also be the most expensive that I have seen (and I reckon mines cooler) but if its mint I reckon it would be well worth it as they cost nothing to run and you can take them anywhere (if your real patient on hills).

Seller claims between 80 and 90. If you were machanically minded, or had money to give to mechanically minded people, I'm sure you could make it go faster.

Having raced them for years & owning arguably the fastest in NZ I have a clue or two about them. Further my road one I rode to the Cold Kiwi from wgtn about 6 times. It was great fun, hardly uses gas & in still flat you can sit on an indicated 113kph which bears out to about 105 if it’s a good one & you are flat on the tank blending into the paint.

They were $1700 brand new. That was a zillion years ago. $1000! Stuff off!! I bought my road one for $500 & that was a decade ago.

Check left hand side of tank. They rust there at the lowest point as water gets into the tank & sits when on the sidestand.

Great! Thanks guys. I did think that $1000+ for a (almost) 20yr old 50 was a bit pricey, but if it is a minter I'd maybe close to that.

Looks like I might have to go check it out at least and see what sort of price they did have in mind. So what would be the general opinion on price to pay?

$700 so to leave alittle for a rebuild if needed later .

Well haven't had time to look myself, but the old man had a quick look today.
Asking price.... $1500! Waay to much I'm thinking.

Might keep an eye on it and look for a drop in price, but other than that I guess I'll keep looking.

Did you recall the accident Wayne Gardner had in his very first GP at Assen? Rider crashed in front of him and got up to run off track, Gardner hit him, sending the crashed rider flying and his helmet coming off, that was Uncini !

So you saying it wasn't an 'accident'?. . . Maybe Gardner was putting a 'hit' on Uncini to fund his early racing?
